There is something deeply human about a milestone like this. Not just the number 200,000, but what it represents: trust built over decades, precision honed through repetition, and a partnership that has quietly become the backbone of premium car manufacturing in India.
Force Motors Limited today rolled out the 200,000th Mercedes-Benz engine from its state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune. This is not just a factory achievement. It is the living story of a partnership between an Indian company and a German giant that has spanned over five decades.
Where This Journey Started
The story goes back to 1997, when Force Motors and Mercedes-Benz first joined hands for engine manufacturing. Over the years, this relationship evolved into something far more comprehensive. Today, Force Motors manufactures engines and axles for every Mercedes-Benz car and SUV produced in India.
The 200,000th engine was not shipped to a warehouse. It was installed in a Mercedes-Benz GLS 450, a luxury SUV that represents the pinnacle of German automotive engineering. The engine itself is a 6-cylinder M256 unit, crafted with the same precision that Mercedes-Benz demands from its global facilities.
The People Behind the Numbers
This milestone was celebrated in the presence of leaders from both organizations, people who understand that partnerships are built on relationships, not just contracts.
From Force Motors, Mr. Prasan Firodia, Managing Director, stood alongside his team. From Mercedes-Benz, a distinguished delegation arrived, including members of the Board of Management from Mercedes-Benz Group AG: Dr. Joerg Burzer (Chief Technology Officer), Mr. Michael Schiebe (Production, Quality & Supply Chain), and Mr. Mathias Geisen (Sales & Customer Experience).
They were joined by Mr. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Mr. Vyankatesh Kulkarni, Executive Director and Head of Operations, and Mr. Prashant Inamdar, Executive Director of Operations at Force Motors.
A Quote That Says It All
When Mr. Prasan Firodia spoke about this milestone, he did not talk about production targets or profit margins. He talked about trust, precision, and shared purpose.
“The 200,000th engine is more than a production milestone,” he said. “It is the living story of a half-century-long partnership built on trust, precision and shared purpose. The Force Motors Chakan facility was purpose-built to meet Mercedes-Benz’s exacting global standards, and every engine that has rolled out of it reflects Force Motors’ unwavering commitment to engineering excellence and manufacturing precision. To have honoured that commitment 200,000 times is a moment of profound pride for us.”
What Makes This Partnership Special
This is not just an Indian company working for a German brand. This is Indo-German industrial collaboration at its finest. In a world where global supply chains are constantly searching for reliability, quality, and proximity, Force Motors has proven that German-quality engineering can come from Indian soil.
The Chakan facility was built specifically to meet Mercedes-Benz’s standards. Every engine that leaves this factory carries the Force Motors name, but it also carries the promise of Mercedes-Benz performance. This is the essence of the “Make in India” vision.
Beyond Mercedes-Benz: Force Motors’ Growing Legacy
Force Motors is not just a partner; it is India’s largest van maker. Founded in 1958 by Shri N. K. Firodia with a vision to provide affordable transportation for the masses, the company has grown into a fully integrated automobile manufacturer.
Today, Force Motors operates five manufacturing units across India, employs over 10,000 people, and is led by Chairman Dr. Abhay Firodia. Its R&D center in Pune, supported by over 1,000 design experts, is regarded as one of the finest in the country.
The company’s product range includes light commercial vehicles and multi-utility vehicles, with exports to 25+ countries across the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
And it is not just Mercedes-Benz. BMW has also assigned Force Motors the responsibility of producing and testing engines for all cars and SUVs manufactured in India. The Chennai factory, built to BMW’s exacting standards, powers every BMW vehicle made in the country.
The Human Side of Manufacturing
Behind every engine is a team of workers, engineers, and quality inspectors who have spent years mastering their craft. Behind 200,000 engines is a legacy of patience, dedication, and unwavering standards.
This milestone is not just about Force Motors. It is about what happens when two companies from different cultures, different continents, and different traditions find common ground in excellence. It is about what India can achieve when it partners with the world’s best.
The 200,000th engine has been delivered. But the story continues. And as long as trust, precision, and shared purpose remain at the heart of this partnership, there will be many more milestones to celebrate.
