7 Seats, 4 Powertrains and A Design That Could SCARE Maruti Ertiga!
Hyundai could be launching the Neira MPV in India next year, reports reveal. The three-row, seven-seater MPV was initially unveiled as a concept at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) and will be expected to make its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in early 2027.
The production-ready Neira MPV is expected to launch commercially in the first half of CY2027. This will be Hyundai’s first MPV for India and is likely to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens and other family MPVs in the segment.
Four powertrain options expected
While the Indonesia-spec Neira is an electric SUV, the India-spec car is expected to be an ICE (internal combustion engine) MPV. Hyundai is reportedly planning four powertrain options to cater to different buyer needs.
Powertrain Engine Expected output Target buyer
1.5L MPi Petrol 1,497 cc, 4-cylinder NA 115 PS / 144 Nm Urban commuters
1.5L U2 CRDi Diesel 1,493 cc, 4-cylinder turbo 116 PS / 250 Nm Long-distance highway travellers
1.5L Turbo Petrol 1,482 cc, 4-cylinder GDi 160 PS / 253 Nm Performance-oriented buyers
1.5L Bi-Fuel CNG 1,497 cc MPi + CNG ~95 PS / ~122 Nm Low running-cost buyers
The 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to be the most popular option for buyers who do long-distance highway travel. The turbo-petrol engine will appeal to performance-oriented buyers while the CNG version is likely to target buyers who want lower running costs.
Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be available across the range.
Design: Parametric Grille and H-Shaped Tail Lamps
The Neira MPV is expected to carry Hyundai’s latest design language, with a parametric front grille and a full-width horizontal LED light bar at the front.
Exterior highlights:
Parametric front grille
Full-width horizontal LED light bar
Distinctive 16-inch alloy wheels
Connected H-shaped LED tail lamps
Hyundai badging on the tailgate
Three-row MPV silhouette
The H-shaped LED tail lamps are a signature Hyundai design element, giving the Neira a distinctive rear identity. The 16-inch alloy wheels are expected to be standard across the range.
Interior: Dual 12.3-Inch Screens and Premium Features
Inside the Neira MPV, it is expected to get a technology-rich cabin with dual digital displays.
Interior highlights:
12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
12.3-inch fully digital instrument console
Ventilated front seats
Multi-colour ambient cabin lighting
Roof-mounted AC vents for 2nd and 3rd-row passengers
Foldable setback tray tables
Panoramic sunroof
The roof-mounted AC vents for second and third-row passengers are a practical feature for a family MPV. The foldable tray tables add convenience for the rear passengers, who often need to take a nap during long journeys.

Seating: 6-Seater and 7-Seater Options
The Neira MPV is expected to be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations.
6-seater: Captain seats in the second row for added comfort
7-seater: Bench seat in the second row for maximum capacity
The 6-seater version with captain seats will appeal to buyers who want a more premium, chauffeur-driven experience. The 7-seater will target larger families who need maximum seating capacity.
Safety: Level 2 ADAS and 6 Airbags
The Neira MPV is expected to come with a comprehensive safety package, including Level 2 ADAS.
Safety features:
6 airbags as standard
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)
All-wheel disc brakes
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
360-degree camera
Level 2 ADAS suite
The Level 2 ADAS suite is expected to include features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking. This would make the Neira one of the safest MPVs in its segment.
Expected Price
Hyundai has not officially announced the price of the Neira MPV. However, industry estimates suggest it could start around Rs. 12.4 lakh ex-showroom.
This would position it between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Rs. 8.5 lakh+) and the Kia Carens (Rs. 10.5 lakh+). The Neira’s premium features and multiple powertrain options could justify a slightly higher price than the Ertiga.
Competition
The Neira MPV will face competition from:
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Kia Carens
Toyota Rumion
Maruti Suzuki XL6
Its main advantages are the four powertrain options, Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof and dual 12.3-inch screens. No other MPV in this segment offers this combination of features.
Why the Neira Matters for Hyundai
Hyundai currently does not have an MPV in its Indian line-up. The Neira would fill this gap and improve Hyundai’s position in the family vehicle segment.
The MPV segment in India is growing, with buyers seeking more spacious and practical vehicles for family use. The Neira could help Hyundai capture a share of this growing market.
Should You Wait?
If you are planning to buy a family MPV in the next year, the Hyundai Neira is worth waiting for.
Wait for it if:
You want a 7-seater MPV with multiple powertrain options.
You value Level 2 ADAS and advanced safety features.
You need a panoramic sunroof and premium cabin features.
You want a CNG MPV with modern technology.
Skip it if:
You need a vehicle immediately.
You prefer a diesel MPV with proven reliability.
You want the lowest possible price.
You prefer a 7-seater SUV over an MPV.
With its four powertrain options, Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof and dual 12.3-inch screens, the Hyundai Neira MPV could be one of the most feature-rich family vehicles in India. If it launches in the first half of 2027 as expected, it could give the Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens serious competition.
