Mahindra has subtly launched the Bolero Bold Edition, an accessory-based styling package that gives the much-loved SUV a fresh look.

The update includes bronze accents on the exterior, black leatherette seats with bronze stitching, roof rails, and a rear camera, while retaining the core mechanicals of the Bolero.

What Is The Bold Edition?

The Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition is not a new variant but an accessories package launched as an optional upgrade over the current range of the SUV. In other words, Mahindra has announced the Bold Edition as a separate series of accessories that could be added on top of the existing Bolero models, and not as a separate variant. In the company’s social media posts, the Mahindra team has used the tagline ‘Bold Hai Boss’. However, Mahindra has remained silent on the pricing of the accessories and the list of applicable variants.

Exterior Updates

The most prominent change on the Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition is the inclusion of various bronze accents on the exterior, which give the rugged SUV a slightly sportier look without altering its boxy shape. The rest of the design and dimensions of the car remain the same. Some of the most prominent changes on the exterior design of the car include:

• Bronze inserts on the front vertical grille.

• Bronze accents around the lower front bumper intake.

• Bronze accents around the fog lamps.

• Bronze accents on the 15-inch alloy wheels.

• Black and bronze side cladding.

• Bronze ORVM applique.

• Roof rails with bronze accents.

• Side indication of the ‘Bold Edition’.

The bronze accents have been added in a number of places in order to give the car a bolder look. These include the front bumper, front vertical grille, fog lamps, ORVM, side cladding, roof rails, and the 15-inch alloy wheels.

Interior Updates

Inside the car, the Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition gets black leatherette seats with bronze stitching in order to give the interior a sportier feel. Similarly, the stitching on the seat edges and the headrests provide a slightly premium look in comparison to the standard fabric seats on the standard Bolero. On the front passenger seats, the leatherette seats have been given bold lettering stating the name of the car.

Mahindra has also included designer floor mats within the accessories package. The most useful addition on the interior, however, is the rear camera with a view in the car’s vicinity with colored parking guidelines, which would substantially ease parking in tight spaces, especially considering the large size of the Bolero.

What Else Has Changed?

Other than the exterior and interior styling upgrades, there are no mechanical changes in the Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition. In other words, the car continues to run on the same 1.5L three-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 75bhp and 210Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. This makes the Mahindra Bolero one of the most basic cars in terms of its mechanicals, which is also reflected in its price.

Features On The Standard Bolero

Mahindra Bolero continues to offer a good set of features for the price of the car. This includes manual air-conditioning, analog instrument cluster, power steering, power windows for all four doors, machine-cut alloy wheels, and fabric headliners. However, the feature list does not include a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, or advanced driver-assistance systems. The ‘Standard’ grade of the Mahindra Bolero is not as well-equipped in comparison to some of the other Indian budget SUVs, but continues to hold on to its identity as a basic utility vehicle.

Pricing And Availability

Mahindra has not officially commented on the pricing of the Bolero Bold Edition, but from the social media posts, the Mahindra team has suggested that the on-road price of this specific grade would be less than Rs 10 lakh. The standard Mahindra Bolero range starts at Rs 8.57 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.99 lakh, with the variants being the B4, B6, B6(O), and B8.

Variant Ex-showroom Price Bolero B4 Rs 8.57 lakh Bolero B6 Rs 9.37 lakh Bolero B6(O) Rs 9.69 lakh Bolero B8 Rs 9.99 lakh

Mahindra has not officially confirmed the variant list for the availability of the Bolero Bold Edition. In case the on-road price of this edition is supposed to stay below Rs 10 lakh, the final price would depend on the chosen variant and the additional cost of the accessories package.

Who Should Buy It?

Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition is a great choice for existing and potential buyers of the Mahindra Bolero who want a more premium look. While the car has largely retained its core identity, it gets various stylistic updates in order to provide a bolder appeal, especially to those buyers who find the standard Mahindra Bolero to be too basic. That being said, the car would be an excellent choice for buyers who want to keep the core identity of the car (primarily its mechanicals and dimensions) while seeking more personalization options. However, buyers who prefer more modern features and safety equipment would have to look elsewhere.

The Mahindra Bolero Bold Edition is a smart move by Mahindra to keep the legacy of the Bolero going. With the introduction of bronze alloy wheels, black and bronze stitching on the leatherette seats, roof rails, and a rear camera, the car gets a new identity while retaining its core characteristics. With the launch of the Mahindra Bolero Neo, Mahindra has continued to keep Bolero as a separate series under the ‘Rustam’ brand. Now, with the launch of the Bold Edition, Mahindra has ensured that the Bolero stays relevant in the modern-day Indian automotive market without losing its identity. While Mahindra has not officially announced the pricing of the new accessories package, it is expected to release the final price of the car soon.
