MG Group has unveiled Starz, its next-generation premium coach platform, at Prawaas 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, signalling a major step in its long-term push toward safer, smarter and more sustainable passenger transportation. The launch, which took place during the three-day industry exhibition, also generated immediate market interest, with the company confirming an order for 50 units right after the unveiling. For MG Group, the response reflects growing demand for premium, efficient and future-ready coaches in India’s evolving mobility market.
The Starz launch is more than just a product introduction. It represents MG Group’s response to changing expectations in the passenger transport sector, where safety, comfort, reliability and sustainability are now becoming decisive buying factors. Developed after extensive customer engagement and market insights, the platform has been designed to serve fleet operators, OEM partners and passengers with a balance of advanced engineering and commercial practicality. MG Group says Starz is intended to set new benchmarks in the premium coach category by combining contemporary design with operational efficiency and passenger-focused features.
At the launch, MG Group Chairman and Managing Director Anil Mohan Kamat said India’s passenger transportation sector is undergoing a profound transformation. According to him, today’s buyers are no longer satisfied with basic mobility; they want better safety, comfort and sustainability across the entire travel experience. Starz is MG Group’s answer to that shift. It draws on decades of manufacturing expertise and deep market understanding to deliver a coach platform that offers long-term value for operators while improving the journey for passengers.
MG Group brings more than 30 years of experience in bus and coach manufacturing to this launch. Over that period, the company has built a strong presence among leading OEMs, State Transport Undertakings, private fleet operators and institutional customers. Its business covers the full chain from product design and engineering to composites, manufacturing and end-to-end mobility solutions. That integrated capability gives the company a strong base to develop products like Starz, which need to meet both technical and commercial demands in a highly competitive market.
A key strength of MG Group is its manufacturing base, which is spread across two major facilities operated through MG Automotives (Bus & Coach) Pvt. Ltd. The first is located in Belagavi, Karnataka, and serves as the company’s centre of excellence for premium and super-premium coach production. This facility is equipped with advanced fabrication systems, precision welding technologies, modern painting lines, integrated trimming operations and stringent quality assurance processes. It is here that MG Group focuses on premium mobility projects that require superior ride quality, refined interiors and lower lifecycle costs.
The second manufacturing hub is in Zaheerabad, Telangana, and supports high-volume production. This facility handles school buses, staff transportation vehicles, mofussil applications, institutional mobility solutions and economy coach segments for both OEM and retail customers. MG Group has continued to invest in efficiency improvements, lightweight composites, workforce development and integrated systems at Zaheerabad to keep pace with growing demand. Together, the two plants give the company the flexibility to serve both premium and mass-market transport requirements.
Starz itself is positioned as a redefined premium mobility platform. It has been engineered to deliver a differentiated experience for both operators and passengers, with emphasis on intelligent space utilisation, enhanced safety, superior comfort, optimised ride dynamics and better operational performance. The platform is also designed to reduce lifecycle costs and maximise fleet uptime, which is crucial for commercial operators who depend on high utilisation and predictable maintenance cycles. MG Group says Starz will be offered in multiple configurations to suit intercity transport, staff movement, tourism and premium fleet applications.
An important feature of Starz is its powertrain flexibility. The platform will be available with both diesel and alternate-fuel options, allowing customers to choose a configuration that best fits their operational and sustainability goals. This is significant because India’s bus and coach market is at a transition stage, where different operators face different route profiles, fuel availability and cost constraints. By keeping the platform adaptable, MG Group is making it easier for customers to adopt a more modern vehicle without being locked into a single fuel strategy.
Pricing for Starz is expected to begin at around ₹39 lakh, depending on configuration and application. This places it in the premium coach segment, making it relevant for state transport undertakings, private fleet operators, corporate mobility providers and institutional transportation services. Bookings are set to begin in July 2026, with deliveries scheduled to follow. The immediate order for 50 units after the launch suggests that the platform has already struck a chord with the market.
Safety remains one of the strongest themes in MG Group’s product development philosophy. The company says its coaches are designed with a strong focus on structural integrity, fire safety, passenger evacuation, driver ergonomics, vehicle stability and rigorous validation. That emphasis is important at a time when regulatory expectations in commercial transport are rising and operators are under greater scrutiny for passenger safety. By building safety into the product from the start, MG Group is positioning Starz as both a premium and responsible mobility solution.
Sustainability is another major pillar of the platform. MG Group continues to invest in lightweight engineering, advanced composites, digital engineering and sustainable manufacturing practices. These efforts are aimed at improving efficiency, lowering environmental impact and supporting India’s transition to cleaner transport. The company’s leadership believes the future of passenger mobility will be shaped by innovation, customer-centricity and strategic partnerships, and Starz is presented as a clear example of that vision.
In essence, Starz marks an important milestone for MG Group and for the premium coach segment in India. It combines the company’s manufacturing depth with a forward-looking approach to safety, comfort and sustainability. With its strong market debut, immediate orders and broad application potential, Starz may become one of the most notable new products in India’s passenger mobility space this year.
