Rs. 50 Lakh For Reserving, 1,341 Hp, 0-96 KMPH In Under 1.6 Seconds & A Version That Can Actually LIFT OFF!
Tesla has opened reservations for the new Roadster in India, just a day after unveiling the new electric sports car in Texas. Indian site shows reservation commitment of Rs. 50.06 lakh for the Performance specification, separate from the final purchase price. Roadster will enter production in 2028, initially as left-hand-drive cars.
New Roadster Is More Than An Electric Superstar: With Fan Downforce, Nitrogen Thrusters, And A Flying Version
Tesla is offering three configurations for the new Roadster, each with distinct acceleration technology.
Configuration Acceleration tech 0-96 kmph target Availability
Performance Four suction fans behind rear axle Under 1.6 seconds Standard
Thrust Four rear-facing nitrogen thrusters, 200-litre pressure vessel Under 0.9 seconds Limited
Rocket Six additional nozzles, 600-litre total storage, 10 thrusters Under 0.59 seconds Invite-only
Performance uses four suction fans behind the rear axle which generate downforce by extracting air from under the car. Deployable skirts at the sides reduce the intake of air, enhancing the effect. Thrust adds four nitrogen thrusters facing backwards, fed from a 200-litre pressure vessel. Rocket gets six additional nozzles and 400-litre extra storage, providing 10 thrusters and 600-litre capacity. Tesla claims under 0.59 seconds and 370-plus kmph in Rocket.
1,341 Hp, 4680 Cells Power New Tesla Roadster
The Roadster shown in Texas was a production-intent prototype, nine years after the initial Roadster concept. Key powertrain specs include:
Two electric motors at the rear axle
Rear-wheel drive
1 MW combined output (1,341 mechanical hp)
4680-cell battery
Over 483 km range
10-80% charge in 10-12 minutes
1,700 kg target weight
Carbon ceramic brakes
Height-adjustable spool-valve dampers
The 1 MW output equals 1,341 mechanical hp, making the Roadster one of the highest-output production cars ever. The 4680-cell battery powers the motors, with Tesla targeting over 483 km range and 10-12 minute 10-80% charging time for the batteries. The car weighs 1,700 kg with carbon brakes and adjustable dampers.

SR-71 and F-35-Inspired Design Features Concealed Headlights and Active Rear Wing
Tesla has designed the new Roadster to evoke the SR-71 Blackbird and F-35 fighter jet, with unique features like:
Concealed headlights
Removable glass roof panels
Active rear wing/airbrake
Steering yoke instead of wheel
Driver-facing touchscreen
Manually adjustable pedals
Active rear wing can act as an airbrake, while the yoke and touchscreen create an aviation-inspired interior. The car has a low front end and rising roofline, with 76 mm front and 120 mm rear wheel spacing.
Flying Car? Roadster Can Briefly Leave Ground On Nitrogen Thrusters
During the Texas demo, a Roadster prototype ran up an overturned ramp and hovered briefly. This is what Tesla means by a “flying car,” though these tests showed Roadster cannot sustain flight. The Rocket configuration is not street legal, so buyers could not fly their Roadsters in India.
The fans generate downforce while the thrusters generate forward thrust. In Rocket, the thrusters also provide lift and directional stability, allowing it to leave the ground momentarily.
