New Skoda Superb Diesel Confirmed for India with 7-Speed DSG and Luxury-Focused Cabin

Skoda Auto is set to launch the fourth generation Superb in India, re-introducing the diesel engine to the premium sedan model line-up in the country. The latest Skoda Superb TDI will come to India in the second quarter of 2027 as a complete built unit and will be offered in just one top spec Laurin & Klement trim.

The upcoming sedan will directly go against the Toyota Camry, which is one of the few premium executive sedans being offered in India by an OEM. According to reports, Skoda plans to price the Superb around ₹60 lakh, ex-showroom. However, the exact pricing will only be announced closer to the launch date.

The diesel powered Superb has been unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. But unlike the four-wheel drive variant seen at the exhibition, the Indian variant of the sedan will be offered with just a front-wheel drive layout.

Diesel Engine Returns to Skoda’s India Range

The fourth generation Superb is set to bring back the diesel engine in the range of Skoda vehicles in India. The company had stopped selling diesel engines in India in 2020 after which Superb was offered with only a petrol powertrain.

The return of the 2.0-litre TDI engine can prove to be very appealing to customers who like strong torque, better efficiency on long distance trips and smooth highway cruise capability. Diesel engines are still extremely popular among the premium sedan buyers who travel from one city to another.

However, Skoda can also look forward to re-introducing the diesel engine in the Kodiaq in the coming days based on the demands in the market. But the Superb is going to be the first model by the company to bring the diesel technology back to India after years.

Powertrain & Performance

The Superb which is made for India will be equipped with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine which produces 147bhp of power and 360Nm of torque. The engine will only be offered with the seven speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The strong torque output is going to ensure that the sedan accelerates smoothly along with easy driving capability. The front-wheel drive layout of the vehicle is perfect for regular commuting along with highway drive, but those customers who are looking for extra grip may miss the all-wheel drive which is available in some other markets internationally.

As of now, Skoda has not released the data about the fuel-efficiency numbers and performance figures of the India-spec version. But the pairing of the diesel engine and the automatic transmission would make the Superb quite suitable for long journeys.

Elegant Exterior Design

The latest Skoda Superb boasts a modern and elegant design of the exterior. In particular, the India-spec Superb comes in the Ice Tea paint finish, and it provides the sedan with a premium and executive look.

Other available paint options in other countries include Pebble Silver, Carmine Red, Cobalt Blue, Ebony Black, Graphite Grey, Energy Blue and Purity White.

The front end comes with Skoda’s large butterfly grille and Matrix LED headlights. The latter provide excellent visibility at night and a distinct appearance of the Superb.

The rear has C-shaped LED taillamps, while the sides come with 18-inch alloy wheels. The fourth generation of the car keeps the handy hatchback-style tailgate, which is better than a conventional sedan boot in terms of access to the luggage compartment.

The Superb has dimensions of 4,912mm in length, 1,849mm in width and 1,481mm in height. Moreover, it has the long wheelbase of 2,841mm, which helps to provide extra spaciousness and stability on the road.

The electric tailgate opens to show a capacity of 645 litres in the trunk. In addition, it is possible to load long objects into the luggage space due to the through-loading function that goes beyond the rear center armrest.

Spacious Executive Cabin

The interior of the car has been developed mainly to make the rear seats comfortable. The Superb has a generous knee, head and shoulder room that allows three adults to sit in the rear.

The rear seats of the car are upholstered in the premium-quality Cognac leather, and there are three adjustable headrests, center armrest, reading lights and climate controls. Also, the rear passengers have sunblinds for the windows.

A Sleep Package is available for the Superb that comprises winged headrests and additional comfort-oriented features. Due to the spacious glass area, the cabin feels airy.

As opposed to several luxury cars in this segment, the India-spec Superb will not get the panoramic sunroof. The brand seems to give priority to rear passengers’ headroom and general comfort rather than the glass roof.

The rear cabin, on the other hand, lacks some features that would have further enhanced the executive experience. These include powered reclining rear seats, ventilated and massaging rear seats, and a rear entertainment system.

A Feature-Filled Front Cabin

The front end of the cabin carries similar styling elements to the Kodiaq. These include a 12.9-inch infotainment display, a digital driver’s cockpit, and ambient lighting.

The infotainment system is complemented by multifunction dials located below the infotainment display. These dials include small embedded displays and allow the adjustment of functions such as temperature and audio functions.

In addition to the more sophisticated design of the front cabin compared to the rear cabin, the front seats are more sophisticated themselves. They include electric seat adjustability and are equipped with heating, ventilating, and massage functions. The driver’s seat has 3 memory settings, while both the seats include extendable under-thigh support.

Some features include a 14-speaker Canton sound system, 360-degree cameras and a full safety package consisting of 10 airbags. In addition to this, level 2 advanced driver assistance systems are also expected to be included.

Soft-touch materials are used throughout the dashboard and door panels. Felt door pockets are used throughout the car, including those in the back.

Price and Competition

The Skoda Superb will come as a completely built unit. This means that the car will be imported to India in fully assembled form. As a result, the price of the car is expected to be relatively higher compared to the locally assembled Toyota Camry.

The Camry has a current price ranging between ₹48.69 lakh and ₹48.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The Superb is expected to have a price around ₹60 lakh. However, the upcoming India-European Union free trade agreement could make the price of the car more competitive for Skoda.

It should be noted that the Superb is expected to come only in the Laurin & Klement trim. As a result, it would provide the customer with a fully-loaded luxury sedan and not several different trims to choose from.

With its extensive feature set, ample back seat space, diesel engine, and versatile tail gate, the new Skoda Superb has the potential to become a unique competitor to SUVs and luxury sedans. The reintroduction of the model will be a significant milestone for diesel engines in Skoda’s lineup in India.
