Ampere Electric patented its futuristic Xyber electric motorcycle concept in India, thus making a crucial step in the right direction towards bringing it to the market. First unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, Xyber is set to be Ampere’s first electric motorcycle, taking a step up from the brand’s current scooter line-up. It’s worth noting that specifications and prices for this product have yet to be announced but it looks like the electric motorcycle is designed with performance in mind and is packed with various interesting features.

Design language and overall layout

The Xyber concept comes with a street-naked futuristic design, clearly stating the fact of being electric. Being free from a conventional fuel tank, the bodywork of this motorcycle features a single piece of plastic from the front to the rear subframe, giving it an entirely continuous look. Muscular tank shrouds carrying the Ampere logo and “AMPERE” lettering complete this motorcycle together with the same kind of brand name and logos on the flyscreen located right above the headlight. The flyscreen of Xyber features winglets that also serve as the indicators.

All the lighting in the motorcycle is done using LED lights. The motorcycle has a large headlamp unit with two dials right above it controlling the low-beam and high-beam height, respectively. The charging port is located on top of the Xyber right where one would normally see a fuel filler cap of an ICE motorcycle. Xyber features split seats, split grab rail and an X-shaped LED light cluster, not connecting in the middle at the back.

Powertrain, performance and expected range

According to some information available about the Xyber, the powertrain of this motorcycle will consist of a mid-mounted, liquid-cooled electric motor driving the rear wheel through a chain drive system. Reports about Xyber state that it will feature a peak output of approximately 10 kW (13.5 bhp). Thus, in terms of performance this electric motorcycle is expected to compete with 125-150 cc petrol motorcycles.

Being liquid cooled, both motor and the battery of the Xyber should enable it to provide excellent performance for long periods of time, which will be particularly useful for riding in urban environments. The expected maximum range of Xyber per charge is supposed to be 200 km, which means that the Xyber will go head-to-head with rival electric motorcycles made by companies such as Revolt and Ola.

Hardware of chassis, suspension and braking

From what can be seen from the images of the patent application, the chassis of the Xyber has some premium elements that are usually found in mid-range motorcycles. Namely, the front forks are upside-down (USD). These forks are usually known for their increased rigidity, enhanced feedback and improved handling when compared to telescopic forks. As for the rear of the motorcycle, it seems to have a mono shock system, which enables the adjustment of damping and gives a planted feeling when riding.

As for the brakes, they appear to use disc brakes on all wheels, which is quite normal these days for any performance two-wheeled vehicle. Additionally, there are some fat tyres fitted to the motorcycle, which should give better traction and improved stability when riding.

The configuration of the chassis and the suspension systems suggest that Ampere tries to develop the motorcycle as a bike that should perform well and provide good handling, and not as a purely commuter electric motorcycle.

Features, connectivity and rider experience

Speaking of the technological features of the Xyber, it is notable that the motorcycle has a pill-shaped horizontal TFT instrument cluster. Such a screen is said to allow Bluetooth connectivity and Google Maps integration, so the rider will get turn-by-turn navigation, notification about incoming calls and probably even music control from the connected smartphone.

This is not surprising since such connected features are common today for Indian electric two-wheelers, where customers demand smartphone integration and over-the-air update capabilities.

As for the ergonomics of the motorcycle, it appears to feature the street-style handlebar, split seats and a relatively upright but slightly forward-leaning seating position. In case the production version of the Xyber has the same ergonomics, it will be convenient for daily commuting and weekend trips, and probably even for working with deliveries or as a gig-working vehicle.

Market positioning and what to expect next

Patenting the Xyber concept suggests that Ampere intends to enter not only the scooter market but also the electric motorcycle market, where it already has several rivals like Revolt and others. The 10 kW motor, 200 km claimed range and premium hardware would position the Xyber against the mentioned companies and would differentiate Ampere’s motorcycle from its scooters.
