Bajaj Auto is enjoying a booming run in FY2027.
In the first five months (April-August 2026), the company exported 11,00,827 two-wheelers, up by a huge 50% YoY from 7,34,193 units in the same period of FY2026. This impressive performance has helped Bajaj strengthen its position as the largest two-wheeler exporter in India, accounting for 41% of the 2W export volumes in this period.
Behind the surging exports
Looking at the five-month figures:
Total two-wheelers exported: 11,00,827 units (up 50% YoY)
Motorcycles: 10,96,009 units (up 49% YoY)
Chetak electric scooters: 4,818 units
Total two-, three-wheelers and Qute exports: 12,66,714 units (up 50% YoY)
Three-wheeler exports: 1,60,685 units (up 48% YoY)
Qute quadricycle exports: 5,202 units (up 206% YoY)
Already, these numbers represent 56% of Bajaj’s record highest ever full-year export volume of 2.25 million units, achieved in FY2026.
Driving factors behind the export boom
There are several factors behind the impressive export performance of Bajaj Auto:
Growing demand in Africa and Latin America: These regions are a key market for Bajaj’s two-wheelers and three-wheelers and represent a growing opportunity as urbanisation and economic growth picks up.
Product mix and pricing: Bajaj’s value-for-money offerings such as the Pulsar series and robust three-wheelers are in demand in these price-sensitive emerging markets.
Geopolitical headwinds: While geopolitical instability elsewhere can hurt some players, Bajaj has benefitted from building a large dealer footprint across key markets.
Growing confidence in e-vehicle exports: Inclusion of Chetak electric scooters (4,818 units) in the export figures indicates Bajaj’s growing confidence in its e-vehicle product for overseas markets.
August 2026: A telling sign
The strong run in exports is not a one-off as seen in the impressive performance in August 2026. Bajaj Auto exported 2,41,850 two-wheelers in the month, up by 53% YoY from 1,57,778 units in August 2025. Total sales for the month was 5,35,764 units, up by 28% YoY, with exports representing over 45% of the total volume.
This shows that exports are not just witnessing growth but also making a significant impact on Bajaj’s overall business mix.

India’s largest exporter by numbers
Looking at the big picture, Bajaj Auto’s dominance in exports is evident:
India’s total 2W exports (April-August FY27): 2.66 million units
Bajaj’s share: 41% (11,00,827 units)
TVS Motor: second-largest exporter.
In FY2026, Bajaj exported a record 2.25 million units, contributing to 34% of India’s total 6.55 million 2W, 3W and quadricycle exports.
Impact on Bajaj and India
For Bajaj Auto, the export boom has several benefits:
Higher revenue and margins: Exports generally fetch higher price realisation compared to domestic sales.
Strong global brand presence: Success in global markets enhances the brand value and opens up opportunities for new products.
Reduced domestic market risk: With exports accounting for around 44% of FY26 volumes, the company is less dependent on the domestic market.
For India, Bajaj’s success in the export market signifies the country’s emergence as a global manufacturing hub for two-wheelers, driving employment, foreign exchange earnings and encouraging investment in the industry.
Looking ahead: Will the momentum last?
While Bajaj Auto has a strong growth story, there are challenges ahead:
Currency appreciation: A stronger rupee can hurt export competitiveness.
Geopolitical instability: Ongoing geopolitical tensions can affect trade flows and demand for exports.
Rising input costs: Higher costs of steel and copper can eat into profit margins.
Competition from TVS and others: Other Indian players such as TVS Motor are also eyeing the export market, which can lead to price wars.
Despite these challenges, Bajaj’s management expects exports to persistently exceed 2,50,000 units per month, an indication of their confidence in the growth prospects.
Bajaj Auto’s impressive 50% jump in two-wheeler exports in FY27 is a positive omen for the company’s long-term growth prospects. With exports playing a growing role in the company’s business mix, Bajaj is emerging as a significant global player in the two-wheeler industry.
For India, the success of a home-grown brand in capturing significant market share in overseas markets is a feel-good factor and has helped build the country’s export credentials.
