Hyundai’s new Bayon is being introduced to Indian markets with starting prices from ₹10 Lakh, all the way up to ₹18 Lakh (ex-showroom).
It features seven different variants, an easy-to-find 1.5-litre petrol engine and plenty of features.
Prices & Variants
The new Bayon starts off with the HX2 Manual at ₹10 Lakh, all the way up to ₹18 Lakh for the automatic version. There are seven different trims available for buyers to choose from.
Starting at ₹10 Lakh, the Bayon will undercut most of its competitors. For example, the Creta starts at ₹10.91 Lakh, and the Grand Vitara starts at ₹10.77 Lakh. However, at the top end, the Bayon will be expensive. It’ll be right up against the maxed out versions of its competitors.
The base model in Ahmedabad will cost around ₹11.01 Lakh on the road.
Design & Dimensions
The Bayon has a fresh new SUV look from Hyundai. It features split-style LED headlights, integrated daytime running lights, sculpted bodywork, roof bars, dual tone alloy wheels and an optional contrasting roof. It has a sporty, crossover look.
It measures 4245mm long, 1810mm wide and 1605mm tall. It also has a 2600mm wheelbase like the Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris. With its 205mm ground clearance and 505 litre boot, it’s got plenty of family credentials.
Despite being shorter and lower than some of its rivals, it’s quite a wide SUV. It’s even wider than the Creta!

Engine & Transmission
Hyundai has kept things simple with the Bayon. It features a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder MPi petrol motor producing 115PS and 144Nm of torque. It’s the same engine and power as the Creta and Seltos.
There are two different transmissions available, six-speed manual or Intelligent Variable Transmission (CVT). Drive is only to the front wheels. There is no diesel, turbo petrol or 4-wheel drive option.
Hyundai claims to achieve 18.6kmpl with the CVT, and 17.2kmpl with the manual. This is a decent figure for a naturally-aspirated petrol SUV, however this will depend on the traffic and driving style.

Features & Safety
One of the main selling points of the Bayon is the features. Higher spec models will have a dual 12.3-inch curved infotainment system and digital dashboard, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charging and an 8-speaker Bose sound system.
It features Hyundai’s SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS system. Using three radars and 12 parking sensors it provides drivers with 23 functions including collision warning and avoidance, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
As for safety, it has 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start assist, vehicle stability, ISOFIX points for child seats and highline TPMS. A 360 camera is included on the right variants.
It also has Generative AI assistant from Hyundai. It uses Perplexity for responses, and SoundHound AI for processing. This means it will be the first model in Hyundai India with this feature.
Comparison
The Bayon’s greatest strength is the starting price. It will be cheaper than the Creta, Grand Vitara and many other well-known competitors. It also has the same 1.5L petrol engine and similar gearboxes.
Model Price Engine Power Gearbox
Hyundai Bayon ₹10.00-18.00 Lakh 1.5L Petrol 115PS 6MT/CVT
Hyundai Creta ₹10.91-18.69 Lakh 1.5L Petrol 115PS 6MT/CVT
Maruti Grand Vitara ₹10.77-18.63 Lakh 1.5L Petrol 103PS 5MT/6AT
It has the same power and gearboxes as the Creta and Seltos. It also has a 6-speed manual, whereas many competitors only have a 5-speed. It has a large boot too, which many compact SUVs might lack.
However, it doesn’t come with a strong hybrid option like the Grand Vitara. It also doesn’t have 4-wheel drive. If you want a turbo petrol, diesel or higher power automatic, then you’ll need to look elsewhere.
Is it priced competitively?
Yes. At the bottom and middle of the range it’s looking aggressively priced. Starting at ₹10 Lakh it will be a strong contender against the Creta, Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris. It will attract buyers who want a modern SUV with lots of features but without wanting to pay the premium SUV prices.
The top end is an issue. At ₹18 Lakh it needs to prove why it’s worth buying over more well-known models. However, it offers Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, large boot, dual 12.3-inch screens and tried and tested petrol engine. So it’s got a lot going for it.
Overall, the Hyundai Bayon is priced competitively at the bottom and middle of the range. Now it will be interesting to see how well they can sell it with the feature packed and value for money package.
