Maruti Suzuki’s Eeco has crossed an important milestone in India by clocking 15 lakh sales of the vehicle since its launch in January 2010. It has taken just around three and a half years to reach the latest 5 lakh mark, making it the quickest 5-lakh milestone for the Eeco. Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a new Eeco Star Edition, featuring 18 exclusive accessories and body-colored bumpers to give the vehicle a more stylish look.
Van built specially for Indian conditions
Eeco was created especially for the conditions of India and has become not just a people mover but a multi-functional transportation platform for families, small enterprises, travel agencies and even institutions. In 15 years, the Eeco has made it possible for millions of Indian families to travel, create livelihoods and perform important tasks due to such qualities as space, practicality, versatility and reliability.
Maruti Suzuki states that 65% of Eeco sales in FY 2025-26 were generated in rural markets, whereas 55% of the buyers are first-time car owners and over 51% are business owners. For many of them, the Eeco not only provides the means of transportation but becomes an enabler of aspirations and earning.
Accelerated growth: 8 years to 3.5 years for every 5 lakh units
The sales chart of the Eeco is clearly demonstrating its growing popularity. First 5 lakh units were sold in eight years, then the following 5 lakh units were sold in less than five years and the newest 5 lakh units in only three and a half years. This acceleration proves not only the deep connection of Eeco with Bharat but also the growing shift of Indians to affordable and practical four-wheel cars.

Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, called the figure of 15 lakh Eecos sold “the celebration of the progress of our customers” and the trust they showed in the van. He also highlighted that the van performs various functions in the customers’ life – from family transporter to the business asset and is tightly connected with India’s socio-economic environment.
13-variant portfolio: passenger, cargo, tour, ambulance and many others
Another strong feature of the Eeco is its versatility – one platform that can serve multiple purposes. The current lineup consists of 13 variants of the passenger version with 5-seats and 6-seats, Tour V, Ambulance and Cargo vehicles with petrol and S-CNG powertrain options.
Thanks to the versatility, the Eeco helps with the family mobility, tourism fleets, last mile cargo delivery, business venture and other essential services including patients transportation. For small business owners, the Eeco is advantageous due to the low cost of operation, maintenance and resell, whereas families benefit from the spacious cabin and simplicity of design.
Advanced K12N engine, the strong push to CNG and efficiency
The newest version of the Eeco is equipped with the 1.2-litre Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine. It is marketed as the Advanced K12N and provides the claimed fuel efficiency of 19.71 km/l (petrol) and 26.78 km/kg (S-CNG) to keep the cost of operations of the van low for both individual and business usage.
CNG adoption within the Eeco has seen an explosive rise. The percentage of S-CNG variants of the total Eeco sales has quadrupled, registering at 48% in FY 2025–26 compared to 12% in FY 2019–20. This trend reflects the overall Indian consumer preference for factory fitted CNG as buyers grapple between the upfront cost, fuel expense and long term depreciation
Safety and comfort upgrades as standard
Maruti Suzuki has consistently upgraded the Eeco’s safety and comfort related offerings while ensuring its value retention. The 2026 Eeco features standard six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensors and 3-point ELR seatbelts for all seats.
The car also features seatbelt reminders, a speed alert system and side-impact beams. In terms of comfort, the van offers a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning with HVAC controls, a dome lamp with battery-saver function and reclining front seats, making for a more pleasant driving and riding experience during the day-to-day commute as well as longer hauls.

This is a particularly important update given the Eeco’s positioning in the entry-level segment, where buyers are often willing to sacrifice comfort and safety features for lower purchase price. With the inclusion of standard six-airbags and ESP, Maruti Suzuki is setting a new benchmark for the entry-level vans and multi-purpose vehicles in India.

Eeco Star Edition: 18 accessories to celebrate 15 lakh sales
Maruti Suzuki has announced the launch of a special variant named Eeco Star Edition, as a celebration of the 15-lakh sales achievement of the Eeco. The Eeco Star Edition aims to offer buyers a more premium feel, without compromising on the practicality at the heart of the Eeco ownership experience.
The Star Edition features 18 exclusive exterior and interior accessories on offer, focused on enhancing the Eeco’s visual appeal, as well as comfort and convenience. Highlights include body-coloured bumpers, a feature absent on the standard Eeco, which give the Eeco a more premium and modern look in contrast to the standard black bumpers. Besides visual upgrades, several practical accessories have been included in the Star Edition, which are sure to enhance the Eeco’s appeal to buyers looking for a more premium feel without the premium price.
While exact pricing and specification details on the Star Edition have not been revealed in the announcement, special editions typically fill a price-performance gap between the entry-level and top-spec variants of a car model, and offer buyers a compelling combination of features at a competitive price.
Why the Eeco still matters in India’s changing auto market
The Eeco’s success trajectory closely mirrors that of India’s own economic and mobility growth story. As Indian consumers evolve and grow more sophisticated, the Eeco has kept pace, managing to stay relevant as one of India’s most popular and accessible vans.
Its extensive rural penetration, large addressable audience of first-time buyers, as well as significant presence among the business-owner segment, speak to the Eeco’s appeal. At the same time, continual product updates have seen the Eeco evolve to meet the changing on-road landscape, featuring improved powertrains, enhanced standard safety equipment as well as CNG variants which further bolster its value-retention proposition.
For Maruti Suzuki, the Eeco represents a critical product for its leadership position in the Indian commercial vehicle segment, its push towards CNG propulsion as well as offering an accessible people-mover option to millions of Indian consumers. Looking ahead, the Eeco’s product evolution will be crucial to its ability to meet the upcoming stringent safety and emission norms as well as continue to appeal to a value-conscious buyer in an increasingly competitive entry-level segment, crowded by compact MPVs, microvans and entry-level SUVs.
With 15 lakh units sold, the Eeco has cemented its position as India’s “partner in progress” a car that has helped millions of Indians to grow and evolve, much like the country itself.
