MINI India has opened pre-launch bookings for the Cooper Oxford Edition hatchback in the country.

Based on the Cooper S 3-door hatchback platform, the Oxford Edition is a limited-run special edition that pays tribute to the hometown of MINI, Oxford. The special edition will also utilise Union Jack design accents and will be offered at an affordable price. However, the car will only be available in limited quantities. Here are the details of MINI’s latest limited edition vehicle.

Engine Specifications: Cooper S Power, No Compromises!

Based on the Cooper S 3-door hatchback, the MINI Cooper Oxford Edition has the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, direct-injection turbo-petrol engine as the standard Cooper S.

Performance Specifications:

Power: 204 HP (152 kW)

Torque: 300 Nm

Transmission: 7-speed Dual-Clutch Automatic (DCT)

0-100 km/h: 6.6 seconds

Top Speed: Approximately 235 km/h (electronically limited)

The Oxford Edition comes with no performance upgrades over the standard Cooper S powertrain. However, the Cooper S powertrain is not lacking in any department; the 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor offers good mid-range torque and is willing to rev, making motorways and city roads equally fun to drive. While the 7-speed DCT transmission is quick and smooth, it can be jerky in lower gears in stop-start traffic.

Design: Union Jack everywhere!

The Oxford Edition features a range of British-themed design accents that differentiate it from the standard Cooper S.

Exterior Accent:

Union Jack Roof: A white contrasting roof with a contemporary take on the Union Jack flag. This is the star attraction of the Oxford Edition and is visible from all sides of the car.

Red-And-White Stripe: A bold red stripe that runs along the length of the car.

White Mirror Caps: White mirror caps to complement the white roof.

Two-Tone Slide Spoke Alloy Wheels: The 18-inch two-tone slide spoke alloy wheels are exclusive to the Oxford Edition, with edition-specific hub and valve-cap details in British-flag colours.

Exclusive Colours: The car will be offered in Indigo Sunset Blue, Chili Red, and Blazing Blue, with the Union Jack roof as standard.

Interior Accent:

Textured Union Jack Motif: Position on the base of the steering wheel, a subtle Union Jack motif adds class.

Union Jack Floor Mats: The driver’s floor mat also features a circular Union Jack, while the passenger-side mat features a chequered flag – a nod to MINI’s rally heritage.

Unique Door Sills: Illuminated door sills with Oxford Edition branding.

Sports Seats: Upholstered in premium fabric with Union Jack stitching.

Features: Loaded, but Not Overwhelming

As the Oxford Edition is based on the Cooper S, the car also features the features of the standard Cooper S which include:

8.8-Inch Touchscreen Infotainment: With MINI Connected, navigation, and smartphone connectivity (wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).

Digital Instrument Cluster: A circular instrument display behind the steering wheel that displays speed, fuel level, and trip information.

Ambient Lighting: Multi-colour ambient lighting for the interior.

Dual-Zone Climate Control: For maximum comfort for the driver and front-seat passenger.

Keyless Entry and Start: No need to fumble with keys.

Parking Sensors and Camera: For easy parking in tight parking spaces.

What’s Missing:

Unlike the previous Oxford Edition (2018 model), the new Oxford Edition does not come with a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, or Harman Kardon premium sound system as standard features. However, these features can be specified as options at an additional cost.

Pricing and Availability: Limited, Exclusive

Although MINI India has not announced a price for the Cooper Oxford Edition, we can expect the price for the Oxford Edition to start from INR 44 – 48 lakh ex-showroom, considering the starting price for the standard Cooper S.

Key Points:

Limited Quantities: The Oxford Edition will only be available in a limited quantity in India.

Pre-Launch Bookings Open: Customers can make pre-launch bookings for the car at authorised MINI dealerships or on MINI India’s website.

Delivery Timeline: The car is expected to be delivered to Indian customers by early 2027.

Competition and Market Position

The Cooper Oxford Edition competes with the Abarth 595, Volkswagen Polo GTI, and Hyundai i20 N-Line.

Vs. Abarth 595: The MINI offers more practicality, better build quality, and a more premium interior.

Vs. Polo GTI: The MINI is more expensive but offers a more unique design and superior brand value.

Vs. i20 N Line: The MINI is in a higher class altogether, with superior performance, features, and luxury.

The Bottom Line: Should You Book One?

The MINI Cooper Oxford Edition is an essential purchase for those who desire a premium hatchback with a rich history, distinctive design, and a touch of British flair. The car’s Union Jack roof is worth the price of admission, and its Cooper S performance ensures that it is fun to drive.
