Ather Energy has recently unveiled the Konarc electric scooter in India, which starts from ₹99,999, ex-showroom. The new scooter becomes Ather’s most affordable electric scooter and is based on a new EL platform that has been developed with an emphasis on cost optimisation, scalability and future models.
Range Options and Multiple Variants of Ather Konarc
As Ather says, the Konarc is offered in four versions with different battery capacities and ranges: S Line 100, S Line 125, S Line 161 and top spec S Line 200. The entry-level version provides IDC-certified range of 100km. The rest versions provide ranges of 125km, 161km and 200km. Deliveries of the initial models will start in September 2026. The 200km version will go on sale in the third quarter of 2027.
Variants and Prices
Ather has opted to offer the Konarc electric scooter in different range options instead of trim levels. As such, Ather Konarc is offered in S-Line and Z-Line versions, each with different battery capacities.
S Line 100 is the cheapest model and costs ₹99,999 and provides IDC-certified range of 100km. The battery capacity of this scooter is 2.1kWh.
S Line 125 is more expensive and costs ₹1,21,999. The range is 125km with 2.7kWh battery.
S Line 161 is offered at ₹1,44,999 and provides range of 161km thanks to 3.5kWh battery.
The S Line 200 has been unveiled but there is no official price as of today. It is expected to provide a range of up to 200km and will be delivered in Q3 2027.
As we can see, Ather has chosen a modular strategy that allows consumers to purchase a battery with the required capacity and corresponding range. Consumers who require more range can buy a bigger battery, those who have shorter commutes can save money on cheaper models.
New Metal Body and EL Platform
As we already mentioned, the Konarc is based on the new EL platform of Ather. The platform has been developed for cost optimisation purposes but maintains rigidity and safety.
As the manufacturer says, the Konarc features a metal body unlike the previous models of Ather that were built with a lot of plastic parts. The metal body increases the durability and gives more rigid feeling of the scooter.
Moreover, it helps to protect the battery from minor damages and other parts from water.
The EL platform is designed to support future models, allowing Ather to scale production and introduce new variants more efficiently. The company says the platform has been engineered with cost optimisation in mind, which has helped bring the Konarc’s price below the ₹1 lakh mark.
The scooter’s design is more rounded and family-oriented compared with Ather’s earlier models. It features a compact headlamp, sculpted body panels and a comfortable stepped seat. The overall appearance is intended to appeal to a broader audience, including families and first-time electric-scooter buyers.
Performance and Battery
The Konarc is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers smooth and quiet performance. Ather has not disclosed the exact power and torque figures for all variants, but the scooter is tuned for everyday usability rather than aggressive acceleration.
The different battery options allow customers to balance range and cost. The 2.1kWh, 2.7kWh and 3.5kWh packs provide flexibility for buyers with different requirements.
Charging is supported through Ather’s Grid network and home charging solutions. The scooter is equipped with a 450V onboard charger, which helps reduce charging time compared with lower-voltage systems.
Ather claims that the Konarc can be charged from 0 to 80% in a reasonable time using a fast charger, although the exact duration will depend on the battery capacity and charger output. The company’s expanding Grid network should make it easier for owners to find public charging points in major cities.
Safety and Braking Technology
The Konarc receives Ather’s AeBS braking technology, which stands for Advanced Emergency Braking System. This feature is designed to assist the rider during emergency braking situations by optimising brake force distribution.
The scooter is equipped with disc brakes at both ends. The braking system is tuned to provide progressive stopping power while maintaining stability on wet and dry surfaces.
Ather has also focused on improving ride comfort and stability. The suspension setup includes telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The scooter’s wheelbase and seat height are designed to make it accessible for a wide range of riders, including those who may be new to electric two-wheelers.
The Konarc’s metal body and structured chassis contribute to its overall safety. The rigid construction helps protect critical components and provides a stable platform for daily riding.
Connected Features and Display
The Konarc comes with Ather’s connected-scooter technology, which includes smartphone integration, ride statistics, navigation support and vehicle diagnostics.
The scooter features a digital instrument display that shows key information such as speed, battery level, range, trip data and riding mode. The display is designed to be clear and easy to read in different lighting conditions.
Ather’s mobile application allows owners to access ride history, locate nearby charging points, monitor battery health and receive service reminders. The connected ecosystem is one of Ather’s key differentiators in the Indian electric two-wheeler market.
The company may also offer over-the-air software updates, allowing it to improve performance, add features and refine the user experience without requiring a visit to the service centre.
Competition and Market Positioning
At ₹99,999, the Ather Konarc enters a highly competitive segment that includes models from Ola Electric, TVS, Bajaj, Hero and several other manufacturers. The scooter’s metal body, multiple range options and Ather’s established brand reputation are its main advantages.
The Konarc is positioned as a family-friendly electric scooter rather than a performance-focused model. Its comfortable seating, practical design and range flexibility make it suitable for daily commuting, school runs and local travel.
Ather’s decision to offer multiple battery options allows it to compete across different price points within the sub-₹1.5 lakh segment. The upcoming 200km variant could also attract buyers who want longer range without moving to a more expensive scooter.
