new-hilux

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the all-new Hilux in India, bringing the ninth-generation version of its iconic pickup to the market with a stronger design, a more premium cabin and the same tough, go-anywhere personality that has always defined the nameplate. The new Hilux starts at Rs 31.99 lakh ex-showroom and is now available in three automatic variants, with bookings open from 28 July 2026 and deliveries beginning in the second week of August.

The latest Hilux is positioned as a vehicle that can do more than just heavy-duty work. Toyota has designed it to serve buyers who want a mix of rugged capability, lifestyle appeal, comfort and modern technology. That is why the new model arrives with a bolder front end, stronger feature content and a more refined driving experience, while still staying true to the pickup’s global reputation for reliability and endurance.

Cyber Sumo design

Toyota has given the Hilux a fresh identity through its Cyber Sumo design theme, a styling approach inspired by the powerful stance of a sumo wrestler. The front end gets a wide grille, sculpted hood and muscular proportions that give the pickup a planted, confident look on the road.

The new bumper, LED headlamps with welcome function, LED fog lamps, daytime running lights, alloy wheels, stabilizing fins, retractable ORVMs, LED tail lamps and a shark-fin antenna all contribute to a more modern and premium appearance. The result is a pickup that looks tougher and more expressive than before, while still feeling distinctly like a Hilux.

Power and performance

Under the hood, the new Hilux continues with Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre BS6 Phase 2 diesel engine, which produces 150 kW or 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and backed by an 80-litre fuel tank, making the pickup suitable for long-distance use and sustained heavy-duty work.

This powertrain is a major part of the Hilux’s appeal. It gives the truck strong pulling power, refined highway performance and the durability expected from a premium utility vehicle. Toyota has engineered it to feel effortless in urban traffic too, so the pickup is not limited to off-road or industrial users alone.

Built for off-road use

The Hilux remains a serious 4WD machine, and Toyota has kept that character intact. The pickup comes with High (H4) and Low (L4) range four-wheel-drive capability, along with Electronic Differential Lock and Downhill Assist Control for tougher terrain.

Suspension duties are handled by a double wishbone front setup and a leaf-spring rear, which is the kind of hardware needed for both payload and off-road control. Combined with Toyota’s ladder-frame engineering, the Hilux is built to deliver stability, road grip and confidence whether it is on highways, rough roads or adventurous trails.

Cabin and comfort

Inside, Toyota has moved to make the Hilux more practical and premium. The cabin gets soft-touch upholstery, metallic accents, ergonomic controls, integrated storage, 60:40 split rear seats, tilt-telescopic steering and power windows with jam protection.

Convenience features include Smart Entry, Push Start/Stop, park assist, wireless charging, cruise control, rear armrest, PM2.5 air filtration and multiple drive modes such as Eco, Normal and Sport. These changes are meant to make the Hilux feel more like a versatile lifestyle vehicle rather than a bare-bones pickup.

Connectivity and tech

Technology has also seen a big step up. The new Hilux gets a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch combination meter, Toyota i-Connect features, TFT displays, voice controls and an 8-speaker audio system.

That is a strong equipment list for a pickup and shows how Toyota is trying to attract buyers who want both utility and digital convenience. The cabin now feels more in line with premium SUVs than old-school work trucks, which should broaden the Hilux’s appeal.

Safety package

Toyota has equipped the all-new Hilux with a comprehensive safety suite. It gets seven SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, ABS with Brake Assist, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, emergency brake signal, TPMS, a panoramic view monitor, parking sensors and an impact-absorbing GOA body structure.

This safety focus is important because it supports both everyday usability and long-distance confidence. For a pickup that may be used for family travel as well as business needs, that added reassurance matters a lot.

Variants and pricing

The all-new Hilux is available in three automatic variants: 4X2 GX AT priced at Rs 31.99 lakh, 4X4 GX AT at Rs 33.69 lakh, and 4X4 VX AT at Rs 36.69 lakh. Toyota says there may be an applicable price difference for the VX grade.

The pickup is available in six exterior colours, including Super White, Platinum Pearl White, Attitude Black, Emotional Red, Sulphur Metallic and Ash. Buyers can also personalize the vehicle with genuine accessories such as headlamp garnish, door garnish kits, side visors and side mouldings.

The all-new Hilux is more than a cosmetic update. Toyota has given it a stronger design, better technology, a more refined cabin and the same dependable 4WD capability that made the model a global benchmark.

With 204 PS, 500 Nm, a premium feature list and a starting price of Rs 31.99 lakh, the new Hilux is clearly aimed at buyers who want a tough pickup that can also feel premium and modern in everyday life.
