MG

JSW MG Motor India delivered a healthy 8,018 wholesale units in September 2026, a jump of 19 percent year-on-year and 6.8 percent month-on-month.

However, the company’s model-wise sales displayed a mixed bag, with the Windsor EV leading the volumes chart and the Hector, Majestor and Astor registering significant month-on-month declines.

Overall Sales Performance

MG’s 8,018 wholesale units in September 2026 were up from 6,728 units in the same period last year. Compared to 7,508 units in August 2026, the company posted an improvement of 510 units, albeit falling short of its peak of 8,158 units in July 2026.

MG’s growth was driven by the newly launched Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV, festive-season demand and the company’s expanding electric-vehicle portfolio. Customer deliveries of the Hector Tomahawk EV started during September, while the PHEV’s test drives and deliveries are set to begin in November.

Metric September 2026

Total wholesales 8,018 units
Year-on-year growth 19%
Month-on-month growth 6.8%
August 2026 wholesales 7,508 units
July 2026 wholesales 8,158 units
Windsor EV: Still MG’s Backbone
The MG Windsor EV sold 3,300 units in September 2026, to be MG’s best-selling model by a considerable margin. However, that was a 10.9 percent drop from 3,705 units sold in August.

Despite the monthly decline, the Windsor continues to be MG’s most important product and the company’s No. 1-selling EV in India. MG has crossed the 1.5 lakh cumulative EV sales mark in India, with the Windsor contributing significantly towards the feat.

For MG, the Windsor is not just a volume-driver but the vehicle around which its electric-vehicle strategy is built. It will be interesting to see how the company sustains demand for the model, as the competition among Tata, Mahindra and other EV makers intensifies.

Comet EV: Quietly Consistent

The MG Comet EV registered 978 units in September, a slight dip from 989 units recorded in August. The model was MG’s second-best seller, although with numbers way below the Windsor.

The Comet EV’s performance shows that there is demand for a compact, city-focused electric vehicle, even though it is not set to deliver the volumes that the Windsor will. It adds value to MG’s portfolio and provides a differentiator in the affordable EV segment.

Hector: A Major Monthly Drop

The MG Hector managed only 726 units in September, down by 38.3 percent from 1,177 units recorded in August. This was one of the biggest declines in MG’s line-up.

This is an interesting figure, given that the company has just launched the Hector Tomahawk EV, with dealer dispatches starting in September. The drop in sales of the standard Hector could be because buyers have shifted their preference to the electrified model, or because buyers are waiting for the launch of the PHEV.

The Hector Tomahawk EV is priced from Rs 19.49 lakh for full ownership, while the Battery-as-a-Service option starts at Rs 13.99 lakh plus Rs 4.90 per km battery rental. Its early market response will be important for MG’s premium electrified strategy.

Majestor: Premium SUV Loses Momentum

The MG Majestor recorded 517 units in September, down by 14.1 percent from 602 units in August. While the Majestor continues to be a niche product that targets the premium segment, the drop in demand could be a concern for MG.

The Majestor competes in a limited but high-value segment, so it does not need to achieve massive volumes to justify its existence. However, MG will be looking at the model to stabilise its performance rather than continue to slide month after month.

Astor: The Biggest Fall

The MG Astor was the biggest disappointment, with its sales plunging to 284 units—a staggering 60.6 percent drop from 720 units in August. This is a worrying sign for a model that had registered a healthy recovery just a month ago.

The Astor’s drop could be because of changing buyer preferences or inventory turnover, but a fall of over 60 percent in a single month is hard to ignore. Particularly for a company that had recorded an overall sales increase.

Model-Wise Sales Snapshot
Model September 2026 Sales Change From August
Windsor EV 3,300 units -10.9%
Comet EV 978 units -1.1%
Hector 726 units -38.3%
Majestor 517 units -14.1%
Astor 284 units -60.6%
ZS EV 280 units -11.1%
What September Tells Us

MG’s September result is a testament to the power of its EV line-up, particularly the Windsor in boosting the company’s volumes. ICE models such as the Hector, Astor and Majestor are no longer the drivers of MG’s volumes. The arrival of the Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV will give MG a shot at strengthening its position in the premium electrified SUV segment. However, the company will need the Windsor to recover, the Tomahawk to deliver on the promise of the interest and the Astor and Hector to regain momentum in order to sustain this growth into the festive quarter.
