Although the Range Rover Sport Electric looks almost identical to its combustion-engined cousin, the electric SUV has been constructed from the ground up to offer a whole new electrical architecture complete with dual motors, 800V electric system, large battery and off-road technology. Thanks to this, the future luxury SUV promises to offer the quietness of an electric vehicle without compromising the capability of Range Rover brand.
The future Range Rover Sport Electric is scheduled for a global reveal in September 2026, and to reach the dealerships in India in March 2027. The price tag of the luxury SUV has not been revealed yet; however, it is expected to be higher than locally assembled combustion-engined versions.
Familiar Design Is Deliberate Choice
As one can see from the images, it is quite hard to tell the difference between the electric Range Rover Sport and the regular SUV. As always, the SUV is recognizable through familiar proportions, upright stance and smooth body surfaces.
However, Land Rover chose not to go for a completely new design language. As representatives of the company claim, the customers wanted to get a Range Rover Sport Electric with the same distinct Range Rover Sport appearance but offering a more comfortable, smoother and technologically advanced driving experience.
The only hints about the electric SUV are its slightly changed front grille with smaller air slits and modified alloy wheels that allow improving air flow management.
The choice of keeping the SUV’s design familiar can pay off in the future, as loyal customers of Range Rover brand often like to recognize their favorite SUVs.

New Electric Architecture
As it was mentioned above, the Range Rover Sport Electric features 800V electric architecture designed to provide fast charging and efficient energy management.
The power of the SUV is provided by two electric motors developing 326hp each. In total, the motors generate up to 550hp of power and 850Nm of torque. As the manufacturer claims, the motors have been developed in-house as ready-made units did not offer enough torque control required to tackle off-road terrains.
To store the electric power, the electric SUV features a 118.5kWh battery pack. Land Rover claims a real-world range of up to 531km, although the final number depends on many factors including driving style, weather conditions, terrain and usage of climate control systems.
Owing to its large size and the bulky shape of the SUV, swift driving would reduce the real range of the electric vehicle. However, the battery and the range claimed should be sufficient for long drives without too many charges.
Unbelievable Ride Comfort
Initially, the quiet nature of the Range Rover Sport Electric was notable. The electric drive unit does not emit any sounds and vibrations, making it possible to feel the refinement of the cabin without the interference of an internal combustion engine.
In addition, the ride quality seems to be exceptional. According to reports, it glides over rough surfaces and gravel even more comfortably than the regular model.
Although the heavy battery can interfere with the comfort of the vehicle, it seems that the combination of the electric drive and chassis tuning helps to achieve it.
When the road transitions from tarmac to gravel, it remains comfortable and stable. Thus, the Range Rover Sport Electric appears to be a perfect choice for buyers concerned about comfort.
Stunning Power Delivery
Thanks to the 550hp and 850Nm power outputs, the SUV demonstrates impressive acceleration. With the use of the launch control function, it can take off very fast, yet not dramatically.
Quick and immediate acceleration is the main benefit of electric power. As opposed to petrol or diesel engines, there is no need to build revs and switch gearboxes. Motor provides torque instantly.
There is slight torque steer with a pull to the steering wheel during hard acceleration due to the front axle. Land Rover expects to fix this issue until the vehicle goes into production.
Also, there was slight grabiness during the first press on the brakes, which means that the engineers are still calibrating the braking system and making it progressive.
Exceptional Off-Road Abilities
Perhaps, the most surprising aspect of the Range Rover Sport Electric is its off-road abilities. Land Rover demonstrated the SUV to climb a staircase and drive through an Airbus fuselage.
Although it was intended to create drama, it also revealed some advantages of electric drive. For example, the electric motors provide instant torque from zero RPM, allowing slow and steady maneuvering over obstacles.
The electric drivetrain can distribute torque between the front and rear axles precisely. Hence, it makes it unnecessary to have locking differentials or low range gears.
