Mahindra scorpio

Mahindra has launched the new Scorpio Lifestyler, which is a lifestyle pickup truck that is based on the Scorpio-N SUV. The new version is set to launch in India by April 2027, and it is going to come with a starting price of less than ₹19.79 lakh, ex-showroom. Thus, the new version is set to bring back the premium lifestyle pickup segment for the manufacturer.

As compared to commercial pickups, the Lifestyler was developed for a completely different target audience. It is going to appeal to those buyers who would like to get a vehicle for personal usage, who like spending time outdoors and prefer a rugged alternative to regular SUVs. The new model will have to compete with Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and Toyota Hilux premium versions.

Based on the Scorpio-N

Although the new vehicle was derived from the Scorpio-N, the pickup truck is not going to be merely an SUV with the replacement of the rear part with the cargo bed.

There are some differences in terms of the design and capabilities between the SUV and the new pickup. Thus, the design is supposed to be more rugged and the pickup comes with a dual cab to allow buyers to transport passengers in the cabin and recreational equipment in the cargo space.

The new model has been created for the global market. Therefore, the manufacturer refers to it as to a global pickup. The manufacturer can sell the pickup to the other markets in addition to India.

It means that the decision to base the model on the Scorpio-N should allow Mahindra to benefit from its established platform, powertrain family and production facilities. On the other hand, the different design of the pickup will allow the company to enter the segment, which is less competitive in India.

Rugged and Bold Exterior

As compared to the Scorpio-N, the Scorpio Lifestyler comes with a quite different front-end design. It features a huge rectangular grill with large chrome inserts and a large Mahindra logo.

The grill is surrounded by the squared headlamps with daytime running lights. A bulky bumper comes with the massive skid plate and black surrounds for the vertically located fog lights.

This new design should make the pickup more powerful. It will also distinguish it from the Scorpio-N in spite of the fact that they have similar architecture.

The side view showcases a boxy shape, vertical windshield, roof rails and a pronounced shoulder line. Fender-mounted snorkel shows the car’s off-road nature and hints at the desire of Mahindra to attract adventure-oriented customers.

The model gets a pair of 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Such wheels bring premium feel while keeping the rugged look typical for a lifestyle pickup.

At the back, the Lifestyler receives a practical cargo bed with a straightforward design. The squared LED tail-lamps and “MAHINDRA” lettering on the tailgate accentuate its strong identity.

Premium Cabin with SUV-Like Comfort

Even though the Scorpio Lifestyler is a pickup truck, the cabin of the model is supposed to have comfortable and luxurious feel as a premium SUV. Interior of the model shares a number of elements with the refreshed Scorpio-N, though the exact equipment list might differ between trim-levels.

Interior of the model may feature a big touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and a multifunction steering wheel. Premium upholstery, sunroof, ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera may become available on higher trims.

The pickup is supposed to get a spacious two-row setup with a seat for five people inside. This factor is crucial for the lifestyle segment, where customers expect a pickup to be useful for family trips rather than just being a workhorse.

The cargo bed of the pickup will bring additional space for outdoor equipment, bicycles, camping gear and baggage. Mahindra may offer additional accessories like a tonneau cover, roof carriers, bed liners and other items needed for touring.

Shared Powertrain with Scorpio-N

Currently, Mahindra has not provided complete technical specs of the Scorpio Lifestyler. Nevertheless, the pickup may feature engines, which are used in Scorpio-N.

The Scorpio-N is currently equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and 2.2-liter diesel engine. The petrol engine generates 203hp, while the diesel engine makes 175hp. Transmission of the engines can be either manual or automatic.

The diesel engine looks to be the best option for the Lifestyler due to its excellent torque characteristics and ability to cover long distances. Customers from the lifestyle segment often use their pickups for highway touring, transporting equipment and travelling through off-road tracks.

Automatic and manual transmissions may be available depending on the variant of the car. Four-wheel drive may be available on higher variants as well. Nevertheless, Mahindra has not announced the final lineup of the drive trains.

Lift height and other off-road parameters of the Lifestyler are going to be dependent on its suspension, ground clearance, approach and departure angles, tyre characteristics and electronic driving modes. The company should be providing appropriate components to make it capable of handling off-road driving.

India Launch and Price

The launch of the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler in India is due before April 2027. Its starting price will not exceed ₹19.79 lakh, ex-showroom.

Such pricing will likely put it ahead of several other premium pickups. However, the final price will depend on the variant, engine size, drivetrain and equipment level.

Mahindra will have to take care of its positioning as well as pricing when launching this lifestyle pickup. Competing prices will help attract buyers who look for premium lifestyle pickups but see larger imported or luxury options as too expensive.

Wide network of service centres across the country will be another advantage for Mahindra as the customers of such vehicles usually travel to distant places.

A New Approach to Products from Mahindra

The introduction of the Scorpio Lifestyler can be seen as another step made by the company to expand its range beyond SUVs. It uses the popular Scorpio name with the body of another type and a different purpose.

The car is going to stand out with its athletic design, SUV-like interior, likely 4×4 drivetrain and useful load bed. At the same time, its success will be determined by many other factors including pricing, quality of driving experience, comfort of ride and usability of the load bed.

As the launch is going to happen before April 2027, additional information is expected about its engine range, interior, dimensions, cargo volume and drivetrain options. With the right mix of capabilities and competitive pricing, the Scorpio Lifestyler can become one of the most exciting lifestyle pickups for the Indian market.
