The Advanced Manufacturing Labs will play a pivotal role in meeting this latent need and ensuring that talent is ready to meet industry demands.

Ms. Stuti Charan, IAS, Director, DET, Government of Gujarat, said that Maruti Suzuki, while being the market leader, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to skill development in India. By setting up Advanced Manufacturing Labs in Gujarat’s ITIs, Maruti Suzuki is bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements. This initiative will empower youth and strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for the automotive sector, in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat and Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel’s guidance toward Viksit Gujarat 2047. The momentum and support from Cabinet Minister Shri Kunwarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya, Labour, Skill Development and Employment, State Minister Shri Kantibhai Amrutiya Labour, Skill Development, and Secretary Shri Lochan Sahera, Labour, Information Classification and Skill Development are paving the way for future-ready learning skills that match the pace of global development.

Maruti Suzuki also operates four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing in Gujarat and Haryana, established as a collaborative initiative between the Governments of India and Japan, with an ambition to create a pool of skilled workforce. These institutes are located in Mehsana and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, and Manesar and Sonipat in Haryana.

This partnership represents a significant step toward strengthening vocational education and skill development in Gujarat. The Advanced Manufacturing Labs will provide students with practical exposure to modern manufacturing techniques, ensuring they are well-prepared for employment in the automotive industry. The initiative reflects Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its vision of contributing to India’s skill development agenda.

The investment of INR 125 crore in FY 2025-26 demonstrates the company’s substantial commitment to skill development. This funding will support not only the establishment of the five new labs in Gujarat but also ongoing skill development programs across the country. The company’s expanding manufacturing footprint in Gujarat necessitates a corresponding expansion in skilled workforce availability, making this initiative strategically important for both the company and the state.

The Advanced Manufacturing Labs will serve as model centers for vocational training, demonstrating best practices in manufacturing education. Students trained at these facilities will gain competencies that are directly applicable to industry needs, reducing the gap between educational outcomes and employment requirements. This alignment between training and industry demands is crucial for enhancing youth employability and supporting Gujarat’s growing automotive sector.
