The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z has been one of the most popular naked streetfighters from the company, but it always had one glaring weakness the lack of a proper digital console.

Bajaj Auto has updated the Pulsar NS400Z 2026, adding a 5-inch full-color TFT display with connected technology, putting it on par with the likes of the Yamaha MT-15 V2 and KTM 390 Duke. This 400cc machine is now arguably India’s most competitive performance motorcycle.

Biggest Update: The 5-Inch TFT Console

The most notable update to Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z 2026 is the 5-inch TFT speedometer that uses the same tech as the newly launched Pulsar N160 and N250. The previous Pulsar NS400Z 2025 had a basic negative LCD display that looked very outdated. Here are some of the smart features that have been added to the 5-inch TFT console:

Connectivity: The display supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity using the Bajaj Ride Connect app.

Navigation: The display supports Google Maps with navigation arrows. What’s special about this implementation is that Android smartphone owners can see the navigation arrows even when the phone is turned off, making it safer to use on two-wheelers.

Smart Notifications: The display shows notifications from calls, SMS, and music control.

Visibility: The full-color display is bright enough to be visible under direct sunlight. It also has a good contrast ratio.

Smart technology on the Pulsar NS400Z makes it much more accessible to the everyday rider and a great value in the premium performance motorcycle segment.

Engine and Performance: Same Awesome Puncher

The Pulsar NS400Z 2026 retains the awesome 373.27cc (advertised as 400cc) liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from the KTM 390, but with modifications to make it more street-friendly.

Performance: 40 PS @ 8,500 rpm and 35 Nm @ 7,000 rpm.

Transmission: The Pulsar NS400Z 2026 has a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch (standard). The standard NS400Z may not get a quick shifter, but the top-spec variants will likely retain the two-way quick shifter (up/down).

The power-to-weight ratio of Pulsar NS400Z is phenomenal for a performance motorcycle in this segment. It only weighs 174 kg at kerb, so it has the potential to rival 200kg sportbikes in terms of acceleration. The 35 Nm of torque is also very strong for a 400cc single-cylinder engine. It makes the Pulsar NS400Z faster on the highway overtaking, and filtering through traffic is also a breeze.

Chassis and Hardware: Premium Setup Retained

Apart from the engine and the smart display, the Pulsar NS400Z 2026 retains the premium hardware that makes it one of the best in its segment.

Suspension: The motorcycle gets USD 43mm front forks and a nitrox monoshock with 6-step preload adjustment on the rear.

Brakes: The NS400Z gets 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS for powerful and confident stops.

Tyres: It gets high-grip 110/70-17 tubeless front and 140/70-17 tubeless rear tyres.

Design: The motorcycle gets an aggressive “Z” aesthetic, a muscular tank, and LED lighting on all corners to make it stand out from the road.

Pricing: Now The Most Competitive Premium Performer

The updated Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z 2026 is priced at Rs. 1.90 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Competitive Landscape

In the 250cc-400cc performance segment, the Pulsar NS400Z is the value king. Bajaj Auto has given the motorcycle a much-needed update for 2026, nullifying its last competitive weakness. Here is how it stacks up against the competition:

VS. KTM 390 Duke: The KTM Duke 390 has more electronic rider aids, but the NS400Z delivers similar performance at a much lower price.

VS. Yamaha MT-15 V2: The Yamaha MT-15 V2 has a more established brand image and a fantastic 6-speed gearbox, but the NS400Z has a bigger engine and delivers more power.

VS. TVS Apache RTR 310: The Apache RTR 310 is a fantastic rival with some electronic rider aids, but the NS400Z has a more powerful engine and better brand value.

VS. Royal Enfield Himalaya 400: The Himalaya is a premium adventure motorcycle with a longer warranty and better fuel economy, but the NS400Z is a more competent street fighter and offers fantastic value for money.

VS. Honda CBR250RR: The Honda has a more established brand name, but the NS400Z has a bigger engine, more power, and better value.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z 2026 is an example of a motorcycle that did not need much updating with the exception of the 5-inch smart TFT display. Bajaj Auto has managed to retain the most competent engine and premium hardware in the segment while updating the user interface to keep up with the times. At Rs. 1.90 lakh, the NS400Z is still the most affordable way to get a 40PS motorcycle in India. If you are looking for a motorcycle that will allow you to cruise on the highway and cut through traffic with ease in 2026, the Pulsar NS400Z is a fantastic choice.
