The latest addition to BMW’s naked bike range, the F 450 R was unveiled worldwide on October 1st, 2026.

As expected, the F 450 R is a more accessible version of the company’s litre class streetfighters. However, it has been strategically positioned to take on the KTM 390 Duke, Aprilia Tuono 457 and even the soon-to-be-released Yamaha R7. India has been identified as a target market for the F 450 R, and the brand is set to introduce the German icon to a price-sensitive market that has been fiercely contested by the Austrian and Italian brands.

Powerful Parallel-twin Engine At The Heart Of The Streetfighter

At the core of the F 450 R is a 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. Unlike the company’s other parallel-twins, the 450 R’s engine boasts a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft to reduce vibrations and create a unique exhaust note. The engine produces 48 HP at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. It comes with a 6-speed slipper clutch and a X-ring chain (on the left side).

When compared to the KTM 390 Duke’s 44 HP and the Aprilia Tuono 457’s 46 HP, the 48 HP might seem underwhelming on paper. However, the F 450 R’s two-cylinder motor will offer a more linear powerband than the single-cylinder engines of its rivals. This will allow the F 450 R to cruise on the highway while keeping the vibrations to a minimum, compared to the 390 Duke and the Tuono 457. BMW claims the F 450 R offers a fuel economy of 3.8 litres per 100km, which with a 14-liter fuel tank, can deliver an impressive range of over 350 km for the Indian market.

Style That Commands Respect

The F 450 R has a similar design language as the S 1000 R. It includes the iconic Flyline that stretches from the front fairing to the tail lamp. The motorcycle features a shark-nose front end with aggressive LED headlights that also incorporate Daytime Running Lights. The F 450 R comes with 17-inch cast alloy wheels and the front and rear tyres are the Eurogrip Protorq Extreme, sizes of which are 110/70 and 160/60 respectively.

The F 450 R shares a similar naked streetfighter silhouette with its older siblings. The motorcycle has upright handlebars, a narrow fuel tank, and a compact tail section. The F 450 R exudes exclusivity and premium feel with its exquisite finishing and fit-and-finish, a trait that is absent in its rivals.

Variants, Electronics And Riding Modes Galore

BMW has launched four variants of the F 450 R. These variants have been developed to offer buyers a choice between different levels of equipment and performance.

The Base model comes with Rain, Road, and Dynamic riding modes as well as ABS Pro (cornering ABS), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR). It also gets 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and smartphone pairing.

The next variant, the Exclusive includes all features found in the Base variant but also gets a bidirectional quickshifter (Shift Assistant Pro) and the “Sport Suspension”. Unlike the standard suspension, the sport suspension has a fully adjustable damper.

The M Sport variant builds on the Exclusive variant but also gets the M Sport package that includes the Dynamic Pro riding mode, an M Sport interface on the TFT screen (displaying lean-angle information, brake-force distribution, and a race lap timer), and M-design features (M sport seats and M-specific design elements).

The M Sport with Innovation Package is the top-spec variant and it is said to include an Easy Ride Clutch, a feature that eliminates the need to use the clutch when downshifting or during take-off for slow-traffic situations.

Chassis: Light But Rigid

The F 450 R shares its chassis with the F 450 GS adventure-tourer. It uses a twin-spar steel frame and the engine is mounted as a stressed member to add to the rigidity. At the front are 43mm KYB USD forks and at the rear, a KYB monoshock. The suspension components on the base model are not adjustable, but all the other variants get fully adjustable forks and shock absorbers.

The F 450 R comes with powerful brakes that utilise a 310mm disc up front and a 240mm disc at the rear. At the front, the disc is mated to a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper whereas at the rear, there is a ByBre single-piston caliper.

India Launch And Pricing Details

Even though BMW has not officially stated the launch date for the F 450 R in India, it is assumed that it will launch the bike in early 2027, possibly by the first quarter of the year. Since most BMW motorcycles (CBU) in India are imported as a Completely Built Unit, it is expected that the F 450 R will also enter the country as a CBU.

Expected India Prices For The BMW F 450 R:

Base: ₹4.50 Lakh – ₹4.75 Lakh (Ex-showroom)

Exclusive: ₹5.00 Lakh – ₹5.25 Lakh

M Sport: ₹5.50 Lakh+

The price of the F 450 R positions it between the KTM 390 Duke (₹3.1 Lakh) and the Triumph Street Triple R (₹10+ Lakh). This makes it an attractive option for the price-conscious Indian buyers.
