Royal Enfield’s Flying Flea brand has made a big push into the market with the launch of their Flying Flea C6 electric bike in Pune.

The Flying Flea C6, Royal Enfield’s very first electric bike, is now available in Pune with 10 sales and service points. This makes Pune their third market in India. This shows that Royal Enfield are no longer just keeping the electric bike to a niche and are starting to develop the infrastructure to grow the ownership numbers.

Why Pune?

Pune was a sensible place for Royal Enfield to expand to. With a large two wheeler population and a strong car and tech scene. There is also a strong group of high-end buyers. The city has a good mix of busy city centres and surrounding roads, making it perfect for the C6.

The fact that the brand has launched with 10 points of sale in Pune makes it stand out. It shows that Royal Enfield want to make sure customers can easily get a test ride with easy access to sales, servicing and technical help.

Pune Sales Points

There are 10 Flying Flea sales and service points across Pune. These are located in Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, Market Yard, Wakdewadi, Chinchwad, Kondhwa, Yerawada, Wagholi, Baner and Kasarwadi. The brand is working with multiple dealerships to deliver the service points. Nomadic Motorbikes, Kings Royal Riders, Dhone Automobiles, Brahma Motors, Hridaan Motors, Legacy Automotive, Chopada Motors and Vogue Motocorp LLP.

Each has the facilities to carry out regular servicing. The brand will use a hub and spoke model like they did with Bengaluru and Hyderabad to ensure quick after-sales service. Customers will also get 24×7 roadside assistance.

The 10 sales points in Pune makes Flying Flea have 26 points of sale across their three main cities in India. This is impressive for a brand that is still fairly new to the electric motorbike market. It shows they are looking to make Flying Flea a serious business moving forward.

Flying Flea C6 – Pricing & Ownership

The Flying Flea C6 retails for ₹2.79 Lakh ex-showroom. If you want to keep the initial price low you can opt for a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. This lowers the initial price to ₹1.99 Lakh. With BaaS you do not actually own the battery. You just pay for the battery when you use it.

This is important because batteries are one of the most expensive parts of any electric motorbike. By not including the cost of the battery when purchasing Flying Flea can make the initial cost of the C6 much lower. They will also have control over keeping the battery in good condition. However, you will need to take into consideration how much you will be paying overall if you go for the BaaS option. Over a few years the price can start to add up.

There are three colours available for the C6. Storm Black, Flea Green and Parachute White. All colours are the same price.

Design

The Flying Flea C6 has a retro design, with a unique look that is not like any of Royal Enfield’s usual models. The front forks are a girdle design. The design is clean and has a modern but nostalgic feel. It uses a ‘Born Airborne’ theme.

It doesn’t look too futuristic like many other electric two wheelers. It uses classic proportions with some modern EV styling. This is likely to appeal to Royal Enfield’s current customer base but also younger riders.

Specs

The Flying Flea C6 uses a 3.91kWh lithium-ion battery. It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor. This has a peak power of 15.4kw (approx. 21bhp) and a peak torque of 60 Nm. Royal Enfield claim it to have an IDC range of 154km.

Key specs:

Battery – 3.91kWh lithium-ion

Range – 154km (IDC)

Power – 15.4kw (approx. 21bhp)

Torque – 60Nm

Acceleration – 0-60km/h in 3.7secs.

Top Speed – 115km/h.

The range should be fine for most riders. Especially in a city such as Pune. However, in reality it won’t be as far as claimed due to your riding style, traffic, weather, how heavy the rider is and if you use extra features.

Tech

One of the most techy electric bikes in India. It has cornering ABS, traction control and 5 riding modes. One of these can be customised. It gives the bike an upmarket feel and makes it perfect for daily use and fun riding.

The cornering ABS is a huge feature to have. Not many have this. It will help keep you stable while braking while leaning into corners. The traction control will help prevent wheel spin on wet or rough surfaces. This makes it feel more like an upmarket motorcycle.

Customer Feedback

Flying Flea state that their customers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad have travelled over 1.25 lakh km. We don’t know how many people have bought them or how happy they are, but it shows that they are being ridden.

They are expanding into Pune which shows they are confident with the early feedback from owners of the C6. They are putting a lot of effort into developing the dealer network which is very important for any electric motorbike. Customers often have concerns over the battery, software updates, charging and general servicing.

What To Expect

Flying Flea have also confirmed they will be launching the Flying Flea S6 soon. This will be a more scrambler style electric bike. It will use the same base as the C6. This will help expand the appeal of the brand.

With Pune added, Flying Flea now have a solid presence in three main cities in India. How quickly they can expand to other markets, make charging easier and release more models such as the S6 will determine how much they grow. However, Pune have one of the largest initial networks of Flying Flea in the country. This gives the C6 the best chance of finding a larger audience.
