Tesla India has launched ‘Halloween Mode’.

A festive software feature for the Model Y and Model Y L. The feature provides a ‘spooky haunted house on wheels’ with sounds, light shows and app integration. The software update is delivered via Over-the-Air.

What is ‘Halloween Mode’?

‘Halloween Mode’ is a seasonal software package which aims to add some fun to your Model Y. The update doesn’t affect the performance or range of the electric SUV but provides a range of features including light shows, sounds and app integration.

The update is available to both the Model Y and the 6-seater Model Y L. Customers can also see ‘Halloween Mode’ in action at Tesla Experience Centres.

This software update shows how Tesla uses cars as a software product. With the ‘Over-the-Air’ update, new features can be added to the Model Y without seeing a service technician.

What the update includes

The ‘Halloween Mode’ package includes:

Ghost Costume – Changes your avatar inside the app to a festive costume.

Trick or Treat Mode – Activates spooky sounds and flashing lights outside the car.

Signature Light Show – New Halloween light show in combination with special seasonal wraps and spooky locking sound.

Photo Booth – Enables you to take spooky pictures.

Ghost Voice – Using the app you can record a message and it will be played back using the car’s unique voice.

This provides owners with more interaction with their car. Trick or Treat mode is designed to surprise guests, neighbours and trick or treaters.

Over-the-Air updates: Core advantage

‘Halloween Mode’ is a small update but it shows how Tesla can provide additional features to cars already on the road. This is one of the key differences the brand have in the premium EV market in India.

With the ‘Over-the-Air’ update new features can be provided, upgrades can be made and performance can be improved. This means that your Model Y will constantly develop.

This software feature can help drivers in India who are looking to understand how much it will cost to own an electric vehicle long term. You won’t have to visit the dealer often to upgrade features on your car and shows how Tesla see the Model Y as a tech product.

Switch & Save Carnival extended

Alongside ‘Halloween Mode’, Tesla India have extended their Switch & Save Carnival until Diwali. This is for those looking to move away from petrol/diesel cars.

You can compare the Model Y and Model Y L, check out the exchange deals and set up financing with Tesla’s partner banks. You will also receive a free Tesla Wall Connector if you purchase during the campaign.

This campaign will help make the transition to electric easier.

Ownership costs explained

Tesla have also used this opportunity to explain how much it will cost to own the Model Y each month. The car can be purchased with a deposit of ₹6 lakh and from just ₹39,990 per month.

Ownership cost breakdown:

Deposit: ₹6,00,000

Monthly Payment: From ₹39,990

Savings vs ICE Car: ~₹20,000

Ownership Cost: ₹19,990

The ownership cost shown is calculated by taking the EMI and subtracting the estimated ₹20,000 savings per month that Tesla will save on fuel and maintenance. This is not the actual monthly cost however, you will still pay the lender the EMI.

The EMI shown is indicative and will be subject to financier approval. This was calculated using a 7-year tenure, 8.5% APR and step up EMI.

Why owning an electric car can be cheaper

Tesla highlight that due to the low running costs associated with electric cars, you won’t have to pay for oil changes, spark plugs or multi-speed gearboxes. Regenerative braking will also reduce the wear on brake pads.

Tesla estimate that owners can save around ₹20,000 per month on fuel and maintenance costs compared to a petrol/diesel vehicle. They have calculated that with the Model Y having an energy consumption of 14.3kWh/100km, electricity at ₹7 per kWh and a petrol car getting 8kmpl.

If you’re a high mileage driver then this can become more valuable. However, your savings will depend on your electricity rates, mileage, charging availability, insurance costs and what type of petrol/diesel vehicle you are switching from.

Try it out

Tesla are encouraging customers from across the country to visit their Experience Centres. These are located in Noida, Delhi Aerocity, Gurugram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Tesla also have approved collision centres in Pune and Ahmedabad.

You can book a test drive for the 2026 Model Y Premium RWD or 6-seater Model Y L here or by calling 1800-203-1538.

Although ‘Halloween Mode’ is a seasonal feature it helps to highlight that the Model Y has been designed to improve with software. This will give Indian customers a fun way to interact with their car. It also highlights how easy the Over-the-Air updates are.

Along with the extended Switch & Save Carnival and information about the ownership costs, Tesla are definitely trying to show that the Model Y is more than just a premium EV. It is a constantly improving vehicle with low running costs, advanced technology and a more interactive experience.
