Volkswagen has officially teased the 2027 Virtus facelift for the Indian market.
The new Virtus GT can be seen in the teaser image which shows us what to expect from the car’s new exterior design ahead of its upcoming launch.
New Front End
The most notable changes can be seen on the front of the Virtus. The car gains a new angular bumper with a large lower air duct and geometric mesh design.
The outer edges of the bumper now have new sculpted sections with horizontal inserts instead of the previous fog lamp cutouts. The car now has a much tidier and modern look.
The slim headlamps have been given an updated LED DRL setup. Between them sits a thin grille. Above the lower air duct sits the Volkswagen emblem. On the GT, the car also has a red GT emblem.
New Rear Design
On the rear of the car, the Virtus now has split LED tail lamps. Thin horizontal lamps sit on the tailgate with a black panel connecting them together.
The tailgate has a small spoiler, a central Volkswagen emblem and GT branding on the right. The lower bumper has some dark inserts and textured styling. Parking sensors can also be seen.
The new design makes the rear of the Virtus look much more premium and sporty. The new tail lamp design now matches the more modern global design language of the brand.
GT Spec
The GT version of the Virtus can be seen in the teaser image. It has black mirror covers, dark alloy wheels with angular spokes and a GT badge near the front wheel.
The GT has some sporty styling that makes it distinctive from the normal Virtus. The new bumper design, dark styling and updated lights should mean that the GT version will still be the most desirable spec.
Looking at the top of the car, we can see that it will have the single pane sunroof and shark fin antenna.
Engine & Transmission
The Virtus facelift is expected to keep the same turbo petrol engine line up. The 1.0 litre TSI engine produces 115PS and 178Nm of power. The 1.5 litre TSI engine produces 150PS and 250Nm.
However, there could be some changes to the 1.0 TSI’s automatic transmission. Volkswagen could upgrade it to an 8-speed automatic gearbox instead of the current 6-speed torque convertor automatic. This would be similar to the one seen on the facelifted Skoda Slavia.
The 1.5 litre TSI will keep the 7-speed DSG automatic but remains the performance engine. This makes it ideal for those wanting better acceleration.

Expected Interior Changes
While Volkswagen has not shown us the interior, we expect to see many of the same upgrades that the Slavia received. The current model has a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 8-inch digital instrumentation, ventilated front seats and wireless smartphone connectivity.
It could get a new larger 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 360 camera. This would put it closer to the Slavia’s new spec.
Having a larger digital display and 360 camera would be a good upgrade for Indian buyers. It would improve the usability of the car.
Same Platform As Skoda Slavia
The Virtus is built on the India specific MQB A0 IN platform. This is the same platform that the Skoda Slavia uses. The cars also share the same turbo petrol engine line-up.
The upgraded Slavia has just launched in October 2026 with the 8-speed automatic, 360 camera and larger digital display. Volkswagen will likely do the same with the Virtus.
It means they can easily upgrade the cars with minimal cost. Buyers will also know whether they want to go for the Volkswagen or Skoda option, as the Skoda option will offer more value for money.
Competition In India
The upgraded Virtus will still face competition from the Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Honda City. However, this segment is becoming increasingly competitive with more features and updated powertrains.
The Virtus has built up quite a good reputation for its driving dynamics, good build quality and turbo petrol engines. The facelift will make it more appealing with the new styling and modern features.
The GT will still play an important part. With the 1.5 TSI engine and sporty design, it gives the car a clear identity compared to most of its competitors which will focus on comfort.
What To Expect
Volkswagen have listed the New Virtus on their India website which suggests that it will be launching shortly. We can expect them to release the full specs, variants, colours and pricing in the coming weeks.
The most likely changes will be new exterior design, larger digital instrumentation, 360 camera and 8-speed automatic for the 1.0 TSI. The 1.5 GT will keep the 7-speed DSG.
If Volkswagen price the Virtus facelift competitively, it could help boost their position in the mid-size segment. The updated Slavia has shown that Indian buyers like the new designs and additional features.
The 2027 Volkswagen Virtus facelift is the biggest upgrade the car has had since launch. The new LED lights, more defined bumper, GT styling and expected interior upgrades make it look much newer and premium.
As the Slavia has just been facelifted, we expect to see the Virtus facelift soon. If it gets the same upgrades and transmission improvements, it could make it a much more competitive option against the Slavia, Verna and City in the mid-size segment.
