India’s electric-car market is set for an important phase, with multiple new models due to launch across affordable, mass-market and luxury segments.
Automakers are preparing electric SUVs, family cars and performance vehicles with bigger batteries, longer claimed ranges and faster charging systems. From the Tata Safari EV to the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, the launches will offer buyers plenty of choice for their next electric car.
The next generation of electric cars is also focusing on practical range, premium interiors, advanced safety features and improved charging convenience.
While some models have confirmed launch timelines, the prices and final specifications of others are still awaited.
Tata Safari EV
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be one of the biggest electric-car launches in India during the festive season of 2026. The three-row electric SUV will be above Tata’s Harrier EV and could become a premium family alternative to conventional diesel SUVs.
The Safari EV is expected to use battery packs of around 65kWh and 75kWh, similar to the options available with the Harrier EV. Its expected real-world range could be close to 500 km on a single charge, although the final certified figure will be announced by Tata Motors.
The electric SUV is likely to be offered with rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions. Higher variants could receive a larger battery, stronger performance and additional off-road capability. Expected features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, connected-car technology, premium upholstery and advanced driver-assistance features.
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be priced between ₹22 lakh and ₹32 lakh, ex-showroom, depending on the battery pack and variant. The launch is likely to take place around October or November 2026.

Hyundai compact electric SUV
Hyundai has confirmed that it is working on a new compact electric SUV for the Indian market. The model is expected to sit below the Creta Electric and could become Hyundai’s most accessible electric SUV in India.
The company has indicated that the new EV will debut by the end of 2026, with the market launch possibly taking place in early 2027. Hyundai has not yet revealed the battery capacity, motor output, official range or price.
The compact EV is expected to target urban buyers who want an SUV-style vehicle with lower running costs. It could compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella and other compact electric SUVs.
The new Hyundai EV is likely to support DC fast charging, allowing owners to recharge the battery quickly during highway journeys. It may also feature a modern cabin, connected technology, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS in higher variants. Final details will be revealed closer to its launch.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric
Mercedes-Benz will open bookings for the all-electric GLC in India during the first week of October 2026. The luxury SUV is scheduled to launch towards the end of the year and will be locally assembled in India.
The Indian model will initially be offered in the GLC 400 4MATIC specification. It will use a 94kWh NMC battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP range of up to 715 km, although the official range may vary depending on the configuration and driving conditions.
The GLC Electric is expected to produce around 489 bhp, with a claimed peak torque output of approximately 800 Nm. It could accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in about 4.3 seconds. The SUV will also support high-speed DC charging, making it suitable for long-distance travel.
Expected equipment could include a premium digital cockpit, large infotainment displays, connected-car functions, advanced driver-assistance systems, air suspension and high-quality interior materials. The price is yet to be announced, but it is expected to be positioned in the ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh range, ex-showroom.
Range Rover Electric
The Range Rover Electric will target buyers looking for a luxury SUV with strong performance and off-road capability. Bookings for the model have opened in India with a token amount of ₹10 lakh.
The electric Range Rover uses a large 118.5kWh battery and offers a claimed range of up to 600 km under the WLTP testing cycle. Its expected real-world range is around 535 km, depending on driving conditions. The SUV supports rapid charging, with a 10–80 percent charge possible in approximately 22 minutes when connected to a suitable 350kW DC charger.
The electric Range Rover is expected to be priced at around ₹3.5 crore. It will compete with premium models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW iX and Porsche Cayenne Electric. In addition to luxury and performance, the vehicle is expected to retain the Range Rover brand’s emphasis on comfort and all-terrain ability.
Maruti Suzuki seven-seat EV
Maruti Suzuki is developing a new three-row electric vehicle that is expected to launch in India in 2027. The model could become one of the country’s most affordable seven-seat EVs, with an expected price range of ₹14 lakh to ₹18 lakh.
The upcoming model may use battery technology related to the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which is offered with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs. The larger battery in the e Vitara has a claimed range of up to 543 km, although the range of the seven-seat model is expected to be lower because of its larger body and higher weight.
The new Maruti EV could be aimed at families wanting an electric alternative to traditional seven-seat SUVs. It is expected to offer a practical cabin, multiple seating configurations, connected features and DC fast charging. More details are likely to emerge closer to its 2027 launch.
Mahindra BE.07
Mahindra’s BE.07 is another important electric SUV expected to arrive in India. The production version of the concept is now scheduled for 2027, according to the company.
The BE.07 will be based on Mahindra’s INGLO electric platform and is expected to sit in the premium electric SUV segment. It could offer a range of around 500 km or more, depending on the final battery configuration. The SUV is expected to feature a spacious interior, modern dashboard, large displays, fast charging and connected technology.
Mahindra may position the BE.07 against the Tata Safari EV, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and other premium electric SUVs. Its expected price could be around ₹25 lakh to ₹30 lakh, although official pricing has not been announced.
Porsche Cayenne Electric and Volvo electric models
The Porsche Cayenne Electric is scheduled to make its Indian debut on September 30, 2026. Prices are expected to start at around ₹1.77 crore, while the Turbo Electric version could cost approximately ₹2.28 crore.
The electric Cayenne will combine Porsche’s performance-focused driving dynamics with the practicality of a luxury SUV. It will compete with high-performance electric models from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
Volvo is also scheduled to launch the EX90 electric SUV and ES90 electric sedan in India on October 12, 2026. Both models are expected to offer long driving ranges of up to around 600–700 km, depending on the variant. Prices and India-specific specifications will be announced closer to the launch.
What buyers should consider
Electric-car buyers should not choose a model only on the basis of its claimed range. Real-world efficiency depends on traffic, highway speed, weather, air-conditioning use and driving style. Charging speed and the availability of public chargers are equally important.
Buyers should also check the battery warranty, service network, home-charging installation, battery replacement costs and resale value. A car with a slightly lower claimed range but faster charging and better service support may be more convenient for daily use.
With new models arriving in several price segments, India’s EV market is likely to become more competitive. The Tata Safari EV and Maruti Suzuki seven-seat EV could attract family buyers, while the Hyundai compact EV may appeal to urban users. At the premium end, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, Range Rover Electric, Porsche Cayenne Electric and Volvo EX90 will bring longer range, faster charging and more advanced technology to India’s luxury EV market.
