Aprilia India has finally broken cover on the new SXR GT range, which is set to launch this October 2026.

Aprilia is confident that with these updated models they would be able to reclaim their spot as the premium 125cc-175cc king in the country. The Aprilia SXR GT 125 and the Aprilia SXR GT 175 are now open for bookings. These scooters offer a blend of Italian styling, touring-friendly practicality, and modern-day tech wizardry.

Design: Bigger, Bolder, And More Touring-Friendly Than Ever

The biggest change in the latest Aprilia SXR GT is the bigger 14” wheels on both variants. Previously, the SXR GT 125 was on 12” wheels, and the 175 was on 13”. Aprilia has finally jumped on the bandwagon of big wheels to improve comfort at high speeds and on uneven roads, as the name “GT” suggests. However, the 14” wheels do come at the expense of weight – the SXR GT 175 now weighs 169 kg, which is 12 kg more than the previous model.

The SXR GT’s design language is similar to the previous model but gets some notable tweaks for the Indian market. The sharp creases and angles on the body panels remain the same, but the front apron has been given a more muscular look. It also gets the iconic Tripod LED headlamp, which makes it stand out from the competition like the Burgman Street or the Aerox.

However, in keeping with the GT theme, the company has added various touring-friendly accessories as standard equipment. These include a tall windscreen for better aerodynamics on highways and metal guards to protect the body panels from pillion passengers and rough roads. The seat also gets a new profile for comfort on long rides, which the previous model sorely lacked.

Engine and Performance: The hp-e Engines Are Tuned For Better Efficiency

Aprilia has equipped the SXR GT with the company’s latest hp-e (high power – electronic) engines, which are said to offer better performance and efficiency.

Aprilia SXR GT 125

Engine: 124.45cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 3-valve

Power: ~9.6 PS@7,500rpm

Torque: ~10.2Nm@5,400rpm

The SXR GT 125 is geared towards urban commuting with occasional highway runs. It will compete directly with the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 and the TVS Ntorq 125.

Aprilia SXR GT 175

Engine: 175cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled (est.~174cc)

Power: ~14-15PS

Torque: ~14-15Nm

The SXR GT 175, on the other hand, is a true performance maxi-scooter that bridges the performance gap between the 125cc and 200cc+ segment. It will compete with the Yamaha XMAX (if it launches in India) and the Suzuki Burgman 200 (imported). With its engine specification, the SXR GT 175 will be able to tackle long-distance weekend getaways on the highway without any issues.

Both engines will come with a CVT automatic transmission and are said to be BS6 Phase 2 compliant. Aprilia claims that the engines are more efficient than their predecessors, but we will have to wait for the official numbers to see how they compare to the competition.

Features and Tech: Finally Some Modern Tech For The Indian Market

Aprilia has seen the light and added some much-needed tech features for the Indian market. The highlight of which is the TFT speedometer that gets Bluetooth connectivity for the SXR GT 175. The multifunction display features call and SMS notifications and offers navigation directions via Aprilia’s app. The SXR GT 125 is expected to get a digital LCD console that also has Bluetooth connectivity (but lower functionality than the TFT screen). The scooter also features all-LED lighting (including the DRLs and the tail lamp) and a USB charging port (again standard for modern-day commuters).

The Aprilia SXR GT is expected to directly take on the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, Yamaha Aerox 155, and the TVS Ntorq 125. While the SXR GT 125 will have to contend with the competition, the bigger 175cc version does not have a direct rival in this segment. The Aerox 155 has a liquid-cooled engine, but the Aprilia offers a more “premium” look and feel that is sorely missing in the Indian maxi-scooter segment.

Pricing Details and Final Verdict

The official pricing details are expected to be announced at the launch event, but we expect the ex-showroom price of the SXR GT 125 to start at around Rs. 1.35 Lakh. The Rs. 1.55 Lakh would be a reasonable estimate for the SXR GT 175. With the changes made to the scooter, Aprilia has clearly aimed to take on the premium segment and offer a competitor to the Japanese brands that rule this segment. With its 14” wheels and the addition of touring accessories, the Aprilia SXR GT is now a proper maxi-scooter that is fit to tackle long-distance rides on the highway while also offering the practicality of a scooter. If you are looking for the best of both worlds, the Aprilia SXR GT should be on your shortlist.
