Audi India has begun local assembly of the all-new third-gen Audi Q3 at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited(SAVWIPL), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra ahead of the SUV’s official market introduction on October 16.

The German automaker is looking to capitalise on the growing demand for luxury compact SUVs and re-establish itself in the segment with a fresh line-up that includes a petrol engine with standard quattro all-wheel drive.

Local Assembly: Cost Reductions & Quicker Deliveries

The decision to locally assemble the new Audi Q3 at SAVWIPL is a smart one; Audi India can save on costs by utilising the existing CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly line, thus potentially offering the Q3 at a lower price point than CBU (Completely Built Unit) rivals. Local production will also mean quicker deliveries to customers. The new Q3 is set to be the first of many new Audis that will see domestic production in India as the company looks to the world’s fastest-growing luxury car market.

Design: More Sleek & Digital Than Ever

The all new third-gen Audi Q3 offers significant improvements over the current model. While the familiar compact SUV shape is retained, the new Q3 has sharper lines across the body and uses Audi’s latest design language including the prominent Singleframe grille in a honeycomb design (on S-line trims) and sleek LED headlights with matrix technology. The new model also features an eye-catching rear bumper with dynamic LED tail-lights connected by a light bar, giving the Q3 a broad look.

The new Audi Q3 has grown slightly in length and height for a more spacious interior, and the increased wheelbase will also provide more legroom in the rear making the Q3 more practical for Indian buyers. The use of aerodynamic elements such as flush door handles also reduces drag.

Interior: Tech Meets Luxury

The cockpit of the new Audi Q3 has been completely reworked and boasts Audi’s latest MMI touch response system that makes use of haptic technology (touch feedback). The usual large central touchscreen has been retained (expected to be 10.1 inches in size) and now works in conjunction with the completely digital Audi Virtual Cockpit (10.25 inches or larger). The interior is also driver-centric and features a more modern design as well as higher-quality materials.

The most notable technology feature of the new Audi Q3 is Wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto support as well as over-the-air (OTA) updates and connectivity features for the connected car, which means that customers can use their smartphone to view and control certain car settings remotely.Bang & Olufsen audio systems are also expected to be available as an upgrade in the top trims.

Petrol Only, Quattro All-Wheel Drive

Audi India has announced that the new Audi Q3 will only be available with a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine. The 4-cylinder turbocharged unit is expected to produce around 204 horsepower (201-204 bhp) and 320 Nm of torque.

The familiar quattro all-wheel drive system will also be available across all Q3 variants in India as standard, which should give the new Q3 a strong advantage over the petrol rivals such as the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLAthat usually offer AWD as an optional or top-trim exclusive feature across their petrol engine ranges.

A 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) will be used to make sure that the Audi Q3 retains its sporting character while also providing smooth, lag-free gear shifts. While final official fuel economy figures are yet to be released, the new 2.0 L TFSI engine is known for its efficiency and combined with the start-stop system should provide a decent range for the Indian buyer.

Expected Pricing Range

While Audi India has yet to release the final pricing for the all new Audi Q3, reports suggest that the new model will retail between Rs 55-60 lakh (ex-showroom) on launch, putting it right up against the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40 in the luxury compact SUV segment.

The new Audi Q3 is expected to release in several trims, beginning with a base Premium variant and moving up to the Premium Plus and sportier S line.

Market Positioning & Rivals

The new Audi Q3 is set to launch at an important time for Audi India, which aims to double its market share to 16% in the next 3-5 years. The compact luxury SUV segment is fiercely competitive, but Audi has positioned the new Q3 well with the inclusion of standard quattro AWD and several tech features that are absent in its rivals.

Compared to the BMW X1, the Audi Q3 offers buyers the choice of a petrol engine with standard quattro all-wheel drive, while its cabin is filled with more tech features. Compared to the Mercedes GLA, the Audi Q3’s 2.0L TFSI petrol engine and quattro AWD are sure to prove more attractive to Indian buyers, who are also likely to appreciate the premium cabin materials.

The Volvo XC40 is another major rival in the luxury compact SUV segment, but the Audi Q3’s quattro AWD system and more sporting design are likely to stand out in comparison to the XC40’s Scandinavian design language.

Booking and Availability

Booking for the new Audi Q3 have already opened up at authorised Audi showrooms across the country with a token amount of Rs 1 Lakh. Deliveries are expected to commence shortly after the official launch event that is set to take place on October 16, 2026. Audi should also be able to ramp up production of the locally assembled Q3 quickly in order to reduce waiting times for early adopters.

The beginning of production for the third-gen Audi Q3 at the SAVWIPL plant marks Audi India’s intent on the luxury compact SUV segment. By offering a petrol engine with standard quattro AWD and a fresh design that includes more technology, Audi is set to go toe-to-toe with not only its German rivals, but also the premium offerings from the likes of Volvo and Land Rover.
