In a new development, Maruti Suzuki India has announced that its FRONX SUV has become the fastest selling Indian-made SUV ever to clock 2 lakh export units in under 38 months. In addition to gaining good international demand, the Made-in-India model is currently exported to nearly 90 countries including Japan.

The FRONX made its debut in the overseas markets in June 2023. The model clocked its first 1 lakh export units in under 25 months and has now added the second 1 lakh units in just around 13 months.

Made in Gujarat

The Maruti Suzuki FRONX is manufactured at the company’s Hansalpur plant located in the state of Gujarat. The model is exported to international markets from this facility. The SUV is exported to markets in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other regions.

The model has contributed positively to the company’s “Make in India, Make for the World” strategy. Through the export of passenger vehicles manufactured in India, the company is trying to establish itself as an important manufacturing centre for the same.

At present, the FRONX is exported to nearly 90 countries. Japan is one of the important markets for the SUV. This indicates that the vehicle has successfully managed to cater to even the most competitive and quality-driven markets.

The company currently exports vehicles to nearly 120 countries. The FRONX has become one of the important models of the company in its international portfolio, adding to the company’s footprint in the global automotive market.

Second Lakh Clocking Faster

The time period taken by the FRONX to achieve the export milestone is one of the highlights of its international performance. While the SUV took less than 25 months to clock its first 1 lakh exports, it took only around 13 months to add the second 1 lakh.

This shows that the demand for the SUV has increased significantly since its overseas launch. The SUV seems to be gaining more popularity amongst the international buyers.

The compact SUV segment has gained importance in several international markets. Buyers are now interested in vehicles that offer raised seating positions, stylish design, compact size, efficient powertrains, and modern features. The FRONX has all the elements of becoming a successful vehicle in this category.

Export success is also enhanced by the capabilities of the company’s manufacturing and logistics processes. Quality production, standardized parts, and the company’s experience on the international markets are helpful in the global development of the SUV.

Maruti Suzuki Is Export Leader

According to Maruti Suzuki, the FRONX became India’s No. 1 exported passenger vehicle in the financial year 2024-25. Moreover, the company is improving its performance as the leader in passenger vehicle exports from India.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, stated that all exported cars represent effort and pride of their workers. The company’s managing director highlighted that the exported vehicles carry Indian manufacturing to international markets.

Also, Takeuchi noted that FRONX is one of the important factors behind the successful performance of Maruti Suzuki in the segment of vehicle exports. He stated that reaching the second lakh export milestone in the significantly shorter period of time compared to others means that the demand for the SUV increased rapidly in the global markets.

This success in exports goes beyond a single model. According to Maruti Suzuki, three of India’s top exported passenger vehicles in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27 are the models of the company.

Thus, this performance proves high presence of the company in overseas markets and its capability of producing vehicles satisfying the demands of diverse customers.

Increased International Acceptance of Indian Manufactured Cars
The milestone of the FRONX export was achieved amid the time when India is increasingly becoming an important player in global automobile manufacturing. Manufacturers are using the Indian plants not only to supply their domestic market but also to ship the cars to their foreign clients.

From the perspective of the manufacturer, exporting cars helps to diversify sales, increase plant utilization and establish an international brand recognition. From the perspective of India, exports increase manufacturing activities, create jobs and improve the country’s position in global automotive supply chains.

Thus, the FRONX is a good example of this trend. It is produced in Gujarat and exported to 90 countries. Thus, this model shows how Indian-made car can rapidly grow its demand outside the country.

The SUV’s appearance on the Japanese market is especially important as this market has several well-established local manufacturers and rather strict requirements to the product in terms of quality, safety, and reliability. Thus, export performance in such markets provides additional credibility to Indian manufacturing.
