Mercedes-Benz India has launched their all-new Electric GLC variant for a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 78.50 lakh.
The GLC 400 4MATIC Electric variant is assembled at the Chakan plant outside Pune and is now the most affordable EV in the Indian market. It’s also the first EV ever to be assembled by Mercedes-Benz India.
The Electric GLC Is Now An Affordable Entry-Level EV
The Electric GLC is now the entry-level offering for Mercedes-Benz India’s range of EVs. It has a smaller price tag than the brand’s other EV SUVs but still has a larger battery, more power and new tech when compared to some competitors.
The GLC is being launched in just one trim, which is the fully-loaded GLC 400 4MATIC. Deliveries will start from mid-November 2026.
The launch of this car is significant as it shows Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to local manufacturing. It will be assembled at the Chakan plant rather than imported, which may help with availability and pricing.
Power
Mercedes-Benz India is only offering this SUV in the GLC 400 4MATIC variant. The car has a twin motor AWD system, with one motor per axle. It has 360kW of power (around 489bhp) and 800Nm of torque.
Despite it having almost 2.5 tonnes of weight on board, the car can go from 0-100kmh in just 4.3 seconds. It can reach a top speed of 210kmh thanks to the electronically-limited speed.
The car does have a two-speed transmission system. The first gear will help with acceleration and responsiveness, while the second gear offers more efficiency. This ensures the GLC has great performance and real-world range.

Range
The GLC Electric comes with a 94kWh usable battery using nickel manganese cobalt cells. Mercedes-Benz claims this will offer up to 711km of range on a full charge using WLTP.
The car has an 800V electrical system so it can be charged using a 330kW DC fast-charger. In ideal conditions the battery can charge from 10-80% in around 22-minutes.
Even more impressive, Mercedes claims it can be charged through a 10-minute fast charge and gain up to 300km of range. This makes it a great option for long journeys.
Mercedes are also offering buyers a choice of either a free 22kW AC charger or 2,500kWh of energy credit for two years to use at fast chargers.
Design
The Electric GLC isn’t an EV version of the petrol/diesel GLC, instead it’s built on Mercedes’ new electric platform, called the MB.EA-M. The car is 4856mm long, 1913mm wide and 1652mm high. The wheelbase is 2972mm, which is 84mm longer than the combustion GLC. This should mean it has more space in the rear.
With such a long wheelbase and wide body, the car has a big presence on the road. However, thanks to its electric platform it has a flat floor and spacious interior.

Interior
The car has a 39.1-inch Hyperscreen MBUX system. This screen covers the centre console and is used for all the infotainment, navigation, climate and settings.
The car uses Mercedes’ new MB.OS system and means buyers will get more advanced smart car features. It can receive OTA updates and has a more integrated system.
The GLC also has some premium features including Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting and panoramic glass roof. This makes it a tech-focused luxury SUV.
Safety
While we haven’t seen details on the full Indian spec safety features, the Electric GLC will likely have Mercedes’ advanced driver assistance systems and airbags. The AWD twin motor system will also provide better grip in wet/slippery conditions.
The 800V electrical system will be a real bonus for Indian buyers looking for a long journey car. With the right charging infrastructure, the EV can greatly reduce how long it takes to charge compared to lower voltage EV SUVs.
The AWD system, high levels of torque and low centre of gravity should also provide a stable drive.
Pricing
The car is priced at Rs 78.50 lakh, meaning it’ll be the most affordable EV SUV for Mercedes-Benz in the Indian market. It’ll likely be one of the most aggressively priced large luxury EVs in the market. It has a 94kWh battery, 489bhp, and 711km of range.
It will compete with cars like the BMW iX3, Audi Q6 e-tron and other luxury EV SUVs coming to the Indian market. As it’s assembled locally, it could give it an advantage in the market.
If you’re looking for an alternative to a petrol/diesel luxury SUV then this has a good argument to choose. It has great range, fast charging, good performance and the peace of mind of Mercedes-Benz.
What It Means For Mercedes-Benz India
This is an important release for Mercedes-Benz India as they’re bringing their latest Global EV platform to the Indian market. It’ll increase their local manufacturing capabilities.
With such a long range, fast charging, performance and luxury features, the GLC can help Mercedes-Benz secure their place in the quickly growing Luxury EV market. It’ll also provide an affordable entry point for those who want to drive an EV Mercedes.
