Mercedes-Benz India has launched the locally assembled GLC Electric model with an introductory ex-showroom price tag of Rs.78.50 Lakh.
The GLC 400 4MATIC Electric will be the first model produced at the Chakan manufacturing plant in Pune, with customer deliveries starting from mid-November 2026.
Significant Production Milestone
The Electric GLC marks the first Mercedes-Benz model locally produced using its MB.EA-M EV specific platform. It is also the first locally produced Mercedes-Benz model to utilise its new MB.OS Operating System.
Pune is the second factory in the world (after Mercedes-Benz Bremen) to produce this generation of the Electric GLC. It plays an important role in the global EV production strategy.
The Electric GLC is produced using the same flexible assembly line as the petrol and diesel models. This allows the Pune plant to produce both electric and combustion models.
Pricing
The GLC 400 4MATIC Electric has been given a Rs.78.50 Lakh ex-showroom price across India, making it a new entry point for Mercedes-Benz’s EV range.
Customer deliveries are expected to kick off in mid-November 2026. The Electric GLC has been launched at a time where luxury EV SUVs are gaining popularity in India. This makes the Electric GLC a great long range, practical and tech-focused option for premium buyers.
Mercedes-Benz have not revealed any additional variants or price range. As it stands, the Electric GLC will only be available with the fully loaded GLC 400 4MATIC specification.
Investment in Pune
Mercedes-Benz India have invested an additional Rs.200 Crore in 2026 to aid production, new product launches and digitisation. This helps increase local production of the Electric GLC.
Mercedes-Benz has invested a total of Rs.3,200 Crore in India, the largest investment of any luxury carmaker.
Pune has also reached a major milestone with over 2.4 Lakh units produced locally. This is a record high for any luxury carmaker in India.

MB.EA-M Platform
The MB.EA-M platform is a medium/large EV specific platform. Unlike other platforms which have been adapted from petrol/diesel models, it has been developed specifically for EVs.
This provides the Electric GLC with a more efficient layout, improved cabin space and advanced charging. It also gives Mercedes-Benz more flexibility in developing future EVs.
It is significant to see Mercedes-Benz using the MB.EA-M platform in India as it provides the latest EV tech from Mercedes-Benz globally. Customers will now have access to a Mercedes-Benz EV SUV made using the same platform as their newer global EV models.
MB.OS Operating System
The Electric GLC is also the first locally built Mercedes-Benz model to use its new operating system, MB.OS. This provides a seamless integration between different vehicle systems, digital services, infotainment and software.
Customers can expect a more connected experience with this software in place. It also means Mercedes-Benz can add new features to the car.
However, Mercedes-Benz India have not revealed any specific features or specification for the GLC 400 4MATIC Electric in India.
Design and Comfort
The Electric GLC combines the comfort, practicality and luxury of the standard GLC with newer EV and software technologies. It keeps the name of the GLC but uses a dedicated EV platform.
As it is locally produced, customers in India will get a model produced at the Chakan plant. This could help Mercedes-Benz increase availability and keep prices competitive.
The Electric GLC should appeal to those wanting a premium EV SUV with long range capabilities and modern tech.
Ownership Benefits Changed
Mercedes-Benz India have changed the ownership benefits of their EVs. Customers no longer receive a free AC Wallbox but instead get MB.Charge credits.
They have not revealed how much or how long the credits are valid for. This shows that Mercedes-Benz are focusing more on public fast charging.
This means it is important to look at your local charging options before buying. Whilst having public charging credits could be useful for longer distances, if you regularly charge at home you may need to set up a private charger.
