Affordable EV

JSW is ready to launch a multi-modal electric offensive in India, with new EVs and new-energy vehicles set to roll out between the late 2026 and 2027 under both the JSW Motors and JSW MG banners.

The JSW will offer both affordable electric cars, premium SUVs, and plug-in hybrids that will have received major investments in localisation and manufacturing.

JSW’s Two-Pronged EV Strategy

Please note the following two similar, but separate, entities:

JSW MG Motor India: The existing joint venture between JSW and SAIC (MG), which sells EVs such as the Comet, Windsor, ZS EV, and the newly launched Hector Tomahawk EV/PHEV.

JSW Motors: JSW’s new passenger-vehicle arm, partnered with Chery, set to launch additional new-energy models in brands like Jetour, iCar, and Jaecoo.

JSW MG Motor: Expanding The EV Lineup

Hector Tomahawk EV & PHEV – Already Launched

JSW MG launched the Hector Tomahawk in both EV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants in late August 2026, as a part of their new-energy strategy. The Hector Tomahawk EV highlights include:

Based on the Wuling Eksion platform, with dimensions around 4,745 mm length and 2,810 mm wheelbase

Expected to be equipped with a 69.2 kWh LFP battery with a maximum range of up to 530 km (CLTC)

Front-mounted motor with roughly 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque

Feature-rich cabin with 12.8-inch touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital cluster, ADAS, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and more

Expected to be priced in the ₹18–25 lakh range, with deliveries to start in September 2026

JSW MG is also planning the launch of the Hector Tomahawk PHEV, which will be positioned as India’s first plug-in hybrid in the segment. Test drives and deliveries are expected to start from November 2026, targeting buyers who want electric commuting with long-distance flexibility.

JSW MG expects both variants to sell out for 2026, within two weeks of the opening of the bookings.

Two More EVs In The Pipeline

Apart from the Tomahawk, JSW MG is also working on:

The MG S5 EV: A midsize electric SUV with up to 500 km range, expected to be launched later this year or early 2027.

The MG IM6: A premium electric SUV-coupe expected to be priced around ₹50 lakh, targeting buyers who want a high-end and tech-loaded EV.

JSW MG is also considering an affordable electric vehicle in the ₹10–15 lakh segment as the capacity of the plant in Halol grows and localisation improves. The company’s target is for both the Windsor and the Hector Tomahawk to reach 70% localisation, and hence cut costs, by the end of 2027.

JSW Motors: Chery Partnership And New-Energy SUVs

JSW Motors, a separate entity from JSW MG, is going to enter India’s passenger vehicle market with a tie-up between JSW and Chery Automobile, specifically in the new-energy vehicles (NEVs) space.

Brand Launch & Timeline

The brand reveal is expected to take place around Diwali 2026, with the first retail sales expected to start in January 2027. The initial portfolio will have at least four new-energy SUVs by October 2027, spanning the PHEV, strong hybrid, range-extender, and BEV powertrains. The company’s long-term plan is to launch up to 15 new-energy vehicles over approximately four years, spanning the ₹10–50 lakh range.

Confirmed & Expected Models

Jetour T2 PHEV

This is likely to be the first JSW Motors product, expected to launch in January 2027. It is a plug-in hybrid SUV with a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine and a 26.7 kWh battery. It is expected to have up to 1,200 km range (with around 100–139 km in pure EV mode), and will be offered in 2WD and AWD variants internationally, but the Indian version is expected to be locally manufactured.

iCar V23 EV

The iCar V23 EV is a retro-rugged, boxy-styled electric SUV, with two battery options:

The 59.93 kWh (RWD) offers ~401 km range

The 81.76 kWh (AWD) offers up to 510 km range

It is targeting young, design-conscious EV buyers.

Jaecoo J5 EV

The J5 EV is a premium midsize electric SUV with a clean, Range Rover-inspired design. It comes with a 58.9–60.9 kWh battery, with an expected range of 400–460 km, around 211 bhp and 288 Nm torque, and is expected to be a sporty yet practical EV.

Fulwin X3L (or similar PHEV/EREV)

This is expected to complete JSW’s four-model lineup by late 2027. It is likely to be another new-energy variant (PHEV or extended-range) to complement JSW’s tech portfolio.

Manufacturing, Investment & Localisation

JSW’s EV ambitions are underpinned by their plans to ramp up their manufacturing capacity, with JSW MG currently operating at about 220,000 units per year, and expect to triple their capacity by late 2027 (with an investment of ₹3,000–4,000 crore). In the long-term, JSW and SAIC have been in talks to scale up to 1,000,000 units per year.

JSW has also been pushing to localise their products, with JSW MG targeting their Windsor and the Hector Tomahawk to achieve 70% localisation by 2027, with monthly improvements of 2–3 percentage points. JSW MG expects to be profitable in the calendar year 2027, thanks to their volume and localisation.

JSW’s multi-brand, multi-powertrain approach means that Indian buyers can expect to see more EVs and new-energy cars in their price range (from sub-₹15 lakh electric cars to ₹50 lakh premium SUVs). JSW offers more choice and diversity of their BEVs, PHEVs, strong hybrids, and range-extenders in one portfolio. They also expect to bring down the costs of their EVs over time as their localisation improves. JSW’s MG arm is expanding its dealer network, with plans to have 120 dealers and 150 touchpoints by April 2027, ahead of the debut of JSW Motors in January 2027.

The Road Ahead

With the Hector Tomahawk EV/PHEV, the upcoming S5 and IM6 from JSW MG, and the Jetour T2 PHEV, iCar V23, Jaecoo J5, and more in JSW Motors, India is set to see a wave of new electric and new-energy cars over the next 12–18 months. It may be that for a buyer looking for the right EV for their budget, range, features, and trust in the brand, the JSW’s expanding portfolio may be the deciding factor in 2027 and beyond.
