Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s sales for the month of August 2026 reflect a mixed performance.
While the company’s domestic dispatches declined 3% YoY to 28,410 units, the company’s model-wise breakup indicates that the company has seen a mixed performance across its product lineup.
The Fortuner witnessed a 40% YoY increase in deliveries whiles the Innova and Hyryder remained the volume leaders. The Hyryder reported a healthy MoM improvement, despite a 10% YoY slowdown.
While the company saw a healthy demand for its SUVs and MPVs in August 2026, the company’s volume growth was tempered by the declining popularity of hatchbacks.
Toyota’s domestic sales for the month of August 2025 stood at 29,302 units. These were lower by 3.04% YoY to 28,410 units in the same period this year. This comes as Toyota continues to experience a mixed demand across its product portfolio:
Vehicle type Dispatches YoY Growth MoM Growth
Innova + Hycross 8,963 -4.0% -10.0%
Urban Cruiser Hyryder 8,234 -10.0% +15.0%
Fortuner 3,504 +40.0% +10.0%

Urban Cruiser Ebella 372.
Together, the Innova and Hyryder accounted for 17,197 units or 60.5% of Toyota’s domestic sales.
Innova Hycross + Crysta: The dominant force
The combined sales of Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta continued to be Toyota’s dominant force in terms of volumes with 8,963 units sold in August 2026. This was lower by 4% YoY and 10% MoM. The dip in sales reflects a challenging festive-season stocking environment, as well as a high base compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, the Innova remains the company’s most popular vehicle, with buyers flocking to this MPV for both private and commercial use.

Within this product category, it is worth highlighting that the Hycross hybrid is steadily gaining ground over the Crysta diesel variant. This trend is reflective of a shift in buyer preferences towards petrol-hybrid vehicles for cost-effective and refined performance. In fact, earlier data indicates that the Hycross already accounts for more than 60% of total Innova sales in the current fiscal.
Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Steady demand, despite a YoY dip
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV registered 8,234 units sold in August 2026, down 10% YoY, but up 15% MoM. This model continues to see steady demand, despite a challenging competitive environment. The YoY dip in sales can be attributed to a tough comparison against the same period last year, as well as some inventory adjustment practices. Nevertheless, the Hyryder remains a strong contender in the midsize SUV segment, with its hybrid option appealing to buyers seeking fuel efficiency and reduced operating costs.
Competition in this segment is fierce, with the Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Skoda Kushaq posing a challenge to the Hyryder’s dominance. However, Toyota’s reputation for quality and reliability ensures that the Hyryder continues to hold its ground.
Toyota Fortuner: Star performer
The Toyota Fortuner was the star performer in terms of sales growth in August 2026. With 3,504 units sold, this large SUV recorded a healthy 40% YoY increase and 10% MoM growth. This impressive performance can be attributed to several factors, including:
Strong demand for the facelifted Fortuner with its bold design and enhanced features
Healthy order book carryover from previous months
Growing buyer confidence in the large SUV segment, despite the premium pricing.
The Fortuner is a flagship SUV for Toyota, and its consistent performance in terms of sales is a reflection of its appeal to Indian buyers.
Urban Cruiser Taisor, Rumion, Glanza: Compact SUV and hatchback dynamics
The Urban Cruiser Taisor compact SUV (based on the Grand Vitara/Taisor platform) registered 2,863 units sold in August 2026. This model continues to be a popular choice among buyers seeking an affordable and versatile vehicle, with its competition including the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon.
The Rumion 3-row MPV (based on the Ertiga) attracted 2,396 units sold in August 2026. This model continues to appeal to buyers seeking an affordable 7-seater vehicle with Toyota branding and CNG option.
The Glanza premium hatchback recorded 1,480 units sold in August 2026, a significant drop from the 4,461 units sold in the same period last month. This decline in sales can be attributed to inventory adjustment practices as well as the model nearing the end of its current generation before an anticipated update.
Hilux, Camry, Vellfire, Land Cruiser: Niche but important
The Hilux premium pickup recorded 285 units sold in August 2026, up 10% YoY. This model continues to be an important pillar in Toyota’s portfolio, particularly in the premium pickup segment.
The Camry hybrid sedan attracted 195 units sold in August 2026, up 23% YoY. This model continues to hold its appeal in the sedan segment, despite the overall decline in sedan sales in India.
The Vellfire luxury MPV recorded 79 units sold in August 2026, reflecting its position as a niche but sought-after vehicle among ultra-premium buyers.
The Land Cruiser flagship SUV attracted 39 units sold in August 2026, underscoring its premium positioning and appeal to a select group of buyers.
Urban Cruiser Ebella: New entrant in the electric SUV segment
The Urban Cruiser Ebella electric SUV attracted 372 units sold in August 2026, marking Toyota’s tentative entry into the electric SUV segment in India.
